BWW Blog: Naomi Melvin - Somebody's Eyes: Interview with Jeff Dimitriou
by Guest Blogger: Naomi Melvin - Aug 3, 2016

Full disclosure, cast members were possibly reviewing choreography from our dance call before walking into our very first Footloose rehearsal. Our fabulous co-choreographer, Jeff Dimitriou, set the bar high prior to day one and we wanted to be ready. More importantly, there was so much recall from that audition day because it was an exuberant experience! And, the moves were accessible because they were married to impulse. The choreography Jeff gifts to us is full, extended and comes from the heart. Dancing it out on stage is totally visceral, but only when we honour the steps as intended. It is so interesting how the energy of a scene shifts drastically by simply 'being bigger'. There is no grand explanation, but the energy percolates when we give in to the story told through movement. Over lunch, Jeff and I took a corner of our rehearsal space and talked life, art and Footloose. If you did not know before, Jeff's artistry stems far beyond choreography - he is a painter as well. We began by talking about this side of his work.  (more...)

BWW Review: Wish, Wish, Wish: The Magic of MSMT's ALADDIN
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Aug 22, 2016

The young and young at heart were treated to a day of enchantment at Maine State Music Theatre today, when the company presented four performances of Marc Robin and Curt Dale Clark's delightful musical retelling of Aladdin, directed and choreographed by Raymond Marc Dumont. Presented in a fully staged production, this timeless tale conjures up the magic of wish making, the power of love to transform, and the importance of believing in one's self. In the past few seasons, MSMT has made a concerted effort to expand and enhance their Young Audiences series by offering original musicals based on traditional children's literature and packaged in sophisticated productions with elaborate costumes, imaginative scenery and stagecraft. Moreover, these hour-long performances are entirely created by MSMT's young professional artists- interns, apprentices, and local actors – thereby offering these artists a chance to gain valuable experience. Marty Duncan, Ed.D. Promotes Historical Novel THE PILOT'S MATE
by BWW News Desk - Aug 18, 2016

The Pilot's Mate sketches the history of the Anunnaki Lords who 'from the Heavens came down' to mine gold in South Africa and Peru. The 30,000 Nineveh tablets reveal they had bases on Mars and temples in Sumeria. Celiste, a royal princess, is warned she will see an 'angry, black cloud' that destroys cities. Her people know the air of Mars is losing its atmosphere. They leave their older parents and emigrate to Earth where the men are 'snarled' into the Army of Enlil. Celiste agrees to lead 'her women' to rebuild a village (Arad) west of the Dead Sea. There are problems. Thirty-six women with only four guards means Celiste must warn the men there will be no 'socializing' with the women. One of the guards is accused of abusing a woman; the man escapes to serve the Army of Enlil. The women are warned that war is imminent. Celiste and her women prepare a refuge in the mountains. They are on the path up to their refuge when a brilliant flash of light occurs. Celiste turns to see a 'black, angry cloud' blooming above Sodom. Her mate, meanwhile, goes missing for 90 days. She begins to worry that Deem, a Vimana pilot, has been snared by Inanna, a nortorious seducer of men (as described by the Sumeria tablets). The Pilot's Mate includes End Notes and an Annotated Bibliography of 20 pages. The Pilot's Mate is available in both print and ebook formats. Book Details: The Pilot's Mate By Marty Duncan, Ed.D. BWW Review: Playful, Joyous MAMMA MIA! Rocks MSMT Stage
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Aug 12, 2016

The electric, near ecstatic atmosphere in Brunswick's Pickard Theater last night more closely resembled that of a rock concert than a theatre company opening. For months in advance, the sold out box office has signaled the joyful anticipation of Maine State Music Theatre's new production of Mamma Mia! - one of the first regionally for the blockbuster Broadway hit. But anticipation aside, it is the delivery here that is the story: a stunningly executed, intelligently staged, deliciously performed rendition of the 2001 long running ABBA musical that transformed the intimate Pickard Theater into a boisterous celebration.
