Portland-based Rock Band Blitzen Trapper to Make Theatrical Debut with WILD AND RECKLESS at The Armory

Acclaimed Portland-based rock band Blitzen Trapper will make their foray into the world of theater with Wild and Reckless, a new concert event written and performed by the band that will have its world premiere at The Armory. The band has already recorded a limited-edition LP soundtrack for Wild and Reckless that will be available exclusively at performances. Entertainment Weekly premiered the song 'Love Live On' today, which can be heard HERE. Co-directed by The Armory's Associate Artistic Director Rose Riordan and Production Manager Liam Kaas-Lentz, Wild and Reckless will run on the U.S. Bank Main Stage for 28 performances. Preview performances begin March 16; the opening night/press night is March 24; and regular performances run through April 30. The band will be joined on stage by New York-based actor Laura Carbonell, making her debut at The Armory, and Portland-favorite Leif Norby. (more...)

Pearl Vodka in conjunction with That Uppity Theatre Company and Vital VOICE Magazine will present the sixth annual Briefs: A Festival of Short LGBTQ Plays. Briefs is a unique venture in St. Louis that brings together numerous directors and theatrical artists to showcase the work of eight different playwrights all under one roof. Briefs presents theatrical work that address the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning people. He produced and directed LOVESPORT as well as writing the script. BWW Opera Showstopper: With One Aria, Elza van den Heever Steals the Met's IDOMENEO

No one can accuse the Met of skimping when it put together its current revival of Mozart's opera seria IDOMENEO. Yes, the production's 35 years old, but with this cast, it hardly mattered: tenor Matthew Polenzani in the title role, elegant and Mozartian to the nth degree, the suave and poignant mezzo Alice Coote as his son, Idamante, and the pristine, gorgeous soprano Nadine Sierra as Ilia, the captured Trojan princess, under Music Director Emeritus James Levine. But it was the fourth of the leading players, the full-bodied lyric soprano Elza van den Heever, as Elettra, who blew the roof off. (more...)
