North Coast Repertory Theatre, which mounted a monster hit last year with Neil Simon's Chapter Two, is now staging LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR, the playwright's love letter to his early career as a writer for Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows."  Described by Variety as "a battery of yuks that barely lets up," the play recounts his writing, fighting and wacky antics during the days of live television when he cavorted with such comedy legends as Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks as they tried to please their terrifyingly demanding boss. BWW Review: Keenlyside Returns to Met with a Low-Key DON GIOVANNI

When last seen at the Met , baritone Simon Keenlyside showed off his suave vocalism and superior acting skills in operas based on Shakespeare: He was elegant and intelligent in HAMLET by Ambroise Thomas and a charismatic Prospero in Thomas Ades's THE TEMPEST. He could have picked up on any of those traits and translated them into a memorable Don Giovanni. Instead, he turned in a well-sung but low-key performance that didn't quite pull the opera together. When October hits and Halloween horror movies begin to flood late night TV, you can always count on at least one station somewhere airing Mel Brooks' 1974 classic comedy YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. But this year, the situation is a little different. With the recent passing of Gene Wilder, who stars in the title role and also co-wrote the film with Brooks, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN has been making many more appearances than usual in tribute to Wilder's uncommon genius.
