Strawdog Theatre Company, Artistic Director Hank Boland and Hugen Hall Artistic Director Anderson Lawfer have announced the second production in their 2014 - 2015 Hugen Hall season, Darren Callahan's Desperate Dolls, November 23 -- December 23, directed by Michael Driscoll at Hugen Hall in Strawdog Theatre Company, 3829 N. Broadway Street. Opening night performance is Monday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. The performance schedule is Sundays at 12 p.m. and Sundays-Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Preview tickets are $10, single tickets are $15 and are currently on sale. The CAPA Summer Movie Series, the longest-running classic film series in America, begins its 45th season at the historic Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.) on Friday, June 5, with the Alfred HITCHCOCK classic, Notorious (1946) starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Vocalist B.J.Ward, who released B.J. Ward Sings Marshall Barer on Concord Records in 2005, will perform the late lyricist's music at London's The Crazy Coqs on April 13th at 8pm, with UK pianist and composer, Simon Wallace. Ward is one of the most popular voice talents in the U.S., known both as a voiceover talent who has voiced hundreds of films, TV and games, and as a concert artist. Her very popular one-woman show, Stand-Up Opera, has played at The Kennedy Center and Ward has been a guest artist with symphonies and Performing Arts Centers around the U.S. On the day following the Crazy Coqs show, Ward releases Double Feature (LML), a recording dedicated largely to film music, with the legendary pianist, Donn Trenner. Original producer Lou Adler and Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) are 'preparing a new film with outtakes from the original and lots of surprises.' Film stars Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Tim Curry and Meat Loaf are all rumored to take part in the special celebration. (90210), teams up with all-female orchestral ensemble SIREN Baroque to present, PERGOLESI POWER GAMES, a double-feature of two masterpieces by baroque composer Giambattista Pergolesi at the Alchemical Theater Laboratory (104 West 14th Street – between 6thand 7th Avenues, for two performances only – Friday, January 16th and Saturday, January 17th at 7:30 PM. PERGOLESI POWER GAMES reunites the original cast of Stabat mater (first developed by Morningside Opera in 2012) and expands the evening to include a period chamber ensemble from SIREN Baroque. The students of the Shepherd University Music Department will premiere an Opera Double Feature, featuring one comedic romance and one tragic romance, just in time for Valentine's Day! Opening February 13, the Opera Double Feature will included Dido and Aeneas, directed by Dr. Robert Tudor, and La Serva Padrona, directed by Dr. Bobb Robinson. Both operas are musically directed by Dr. Erik Jones. Dido and Aeneas, a tragedy, tells the story of Dido, a queen and both her love for enemy soldier, Aeneas, and her despair when he leaves her. La Serva Padrona, a comedy, features a clever maid and manservant conspiring to trick the master of the house into marrying the maid so that she can become the wealthy mistress of the house.
