Set firmly in, and often about, New York, Company follows five married, once married, or soon to be married couples and their mutual friend, Robert, a 35-year old bachelor who has been unable to connect in a long-term relationship. Bobby observes the less than ideal aspects of commitment. But, eventually, learns that while relationships aren't perfect, they are a necessary part of "Being Alive." Includes the songs "Getting Married Today," "The Ladies Who Lunch," and "Being Alive."

As reported by The Guardian, backstage holds just as much chaos as on at the Volksbuhne theater, where the dada cabaret revue Pfusch is currently playing in repertoire. In the nearly two years since the announcement in early 2015 that Chris Dercon (once the director of the Tate Modern in London) would assume the director position at Volksbuhne, staff and artists linked to the theater have expressed vehement contempt for the appointment. Morgan James, Richard Amelius and Torya Beard present Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR in concert, featuring Broadway veterans and powerhouse vocalists, Morgan James (Motown: The Musical, Godspell, The Addams Family) and Shoshana Bean (Hairspray, Wicked) and Big Beat Records recording artist Alex Newell (Glee). The one- night-only female-centered concert of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera will be directed by Richard Amelius (Time Between Us, Empty City), with musical direction by Julie McBride (Amazing Grace, Finding Neverland). Jukebox musicals seem to be as popular as ever in the West End, using familiar songs to tell stories on stage. Mamma Mia! is coming close to two decades in London, and newcomers like Motown the Musical are extending their runs. With audiences returning year after year, there is unquestionably an audience for ABBA. Licensed to Ill raises a question which a different band faced: is there an audience for the Beastie Boys? When I first heard there was a musical about this hip-hop group, I'll admit I questioned whether there was an audience for the show itself. Well, 'Ch-Check It Out': there is. This evolution of the Beastie Boys is a revolution for the London stage and storytelling. (more...)

Minnesota Orchestra Reports Fiscal 2016 Balanced Budget

The Minnesota Orchestra's 2016 Annual Meeting today celebrated the artistic and financial milestones of the Orchestra's 2015-16 season, a year in which the Orchestra returned to Carnegie Hall and Europe, completed its celebrated Sibelius symphonies recording cycle, launched a new education program for high school students—and achieved a balanced budget. Marilyn Carlson Nelson, who was announced as the Orchestra's Chair Elect in September, was elected Board Chair by the Orchestra's Board of Directors, succeeding Warren Mack, who completed a two-year term.  (more...)
