BWW Review: Three's Company in Garden Theatre's BOEING BOEINGBWW Review: Three's Company in Garden Theatre's BOEING BOEING
by Matt Tamanini - Mar 31, 2015

There is a lot wrong with the central conceit of Marc Camoletti's farce BOEING BOEING, playing at the Garden Theatre through April 4th. Set in Paris in 1963, Bernard, an insatiable womanizer (likely with undiagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder) has figured out that the best way to reap the benefits of having three live-in fiancees without any of them knowing about each other is to only propose to flight attendants on conflicting schedules. From there, the jokes nearly write themselves as schedules change and weather delays departures. Directed by Keith Smith, the Garden Theatre's six-person cast bounces through the madcap comedy with an abundant joy, despite all of the outdated gender politics. BOEING BOEING, translated from the original French by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans, stands up well as a time-capsule from a different time with a different perspective, and if you can get past the show's uncomfortable premise, you are sure to enjoy its charming cast and taut direction. by BWW News Desk - Mar 30, 2015

Orange County, Calif.—March 31, 2015—Pacific Symphony invites its Family Musical Mornings audience to imagine what it would be like to live next door to one of the most-famous composers of all time during “Beethoven Lives Upstairs,” the award-winning production by Classical Kids Live. Weaving masterful music and true stories from Beethoven's life into a dramatic tale, the concert tells the story of a young boy from Vienna named Christoph (Will J. Green), whose new neighbor is the one-and-only Beethoven. Through a lively exchange of letters with his uncle (Thad Avery), where their subject is the “madman” who lives upstairs, Christoph comes to understand Beethoven's gift, the beauty of his music and the torment of his deafness. With more than 20 excerpts packed into a 50-minute concert, the performance sweeps kids away with Beethoven's beautiful music. Led by Assistant Conductor Alejandro Gutiérrez, the Symphony performs favorites including “Moonlight Sonata,” “Für Elise” and the world-famous Symphony No. 5 with the “da-da-da-dun” theme. Directed by Paul Pement, the adaptation of Barbara Nichol's acclaimed novel leaves the audience appreciating the genius of Beethoven and the diversity of his music from the big dramatic sounds to the sweet romantic melodies. Family of Plane Crash Survivors Tell Their Story in New BookFamily of Plane Crash Survivors Tell Their Story in New Book
by BWW News Desk - Mar 30, 2015

What are the chances of three immediate family members surviving separate plane crashes? For the Suerig family, apparently quite high. Robin Suerig Holleran of Mendham, NJ, survived a near-fatal crash near Atlanta, Georgia in 2005, albeit with a broken back and other injuries. Her father, Karl Suerig of Greenwich, CT survived after the plane he was riding in clipped a tree and nosedived down the side of a cliff just east of Albany, NY in 1997. And her brother Chris Suerig of Flemington, N.J. crashed in an ultralight during a failed takeoff in Plattekill, NY in 2010. Her mother's stepfather was not so lucky-and died, along with forty-Nine others when a Pan Am flight crashed in the jungles of northern Brazil on April 29, 1952. Robin is a co-author of 'Bracing for Impact: True Tales of Air Disasters and People Who Survived Them' being released by Skyhorse Publishing in October 2015. Her family's stories, along with 13 others, cover not just the details of the crash, but how that experience impacted their lives afterward. About 'Bracing for Impact' In this collection of true-life survivor tales, people from all walks of life-a freelance writer, a crew member of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band, a naval flight surgeon, a teenager, and a newlywed on her honeymoon, among others-recount their traumatic narrow escapes as engines stalled, fuel ran out, hazardous weather conditions descended, and landings did not go according to plan. In the face of death, as life flashed before their eyes-or not, as some wryly note-these survivors encountered the terrific split of before and after the crash. Their lives, though preserved, would change forever. www.BracingForImpact.net Media Inquiries Robin Suerig Holleran 973-580-4708 robinholleran@gmail.com (more...)
