This Spotlight focuses on Phil Brickey, an actor, director, rock musician and Elementary School Theatre teacher who was one of the first directors for whom I produced a 2006 show for Kentwood Players at the Westchester Playhouse. That show was George Washington Slept Here which required a double level set to be constructed as the home being renovated had to look totally dilapidated in Act 1 and beautifully restored in Act II. Quite a feat of stagecraft thanks to set designer Grant Francis.

Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has announced that ONCE is now available for licensing. ONCE, the stage production of the 2006 film by the same name was nominated in 2012 for eleven Tony awards and won eight, including Best Musical.

Today, Billboard chart-toppers Slightly Stoopid unveil the first round of dates for their annual summer tour. Dubbed Summer Traditions 2020 (a nod to the outdoor summer tour-circuit the band has done annually since 2006), Slightly Stoopid and fans alike will travel the states, sharing good times with one another through music and community as they have done since the band's inception 25 years ago. This 2020 edition of Slightly Stoopid's summer amphitheater tour kicks off in Eugene, OR on June 11th, 2020 and routes the beloved So-Cal band throughout North America, including two nights at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on August 15-16, 2020. Joining Slightly Stoopid for their Summer Traditions 2020 tour are special guests Pepper, Common Kings, and Don Carlos. Now in its 15th year, Starlight's Vincent Legacy Scholarship program continues to offer a unique opportunity to ethnically diverse middle school students in the Kansas City metro. Established in 2006 by community leaders Greg and Rebecca Reid, the scholarship is intended for students wishing to pursue professional training in the performing arts. To date, Starlight has awarded 40 Vincent Legacy Scholarships with a total value of $97,500. Acclaimed Pianist David Korevaar Will Perform with the Boulder Piano Quartet at Academy Chapel Hall on Friday, February 28 at 7pm. The performance will begin with the rarely heard, romantic and tuneful piano quartet by 19th-century French composer Léon Boëllmann-a composer who is best known for his organ works, but who also wrote several beautiful and worthy chamber works. The music has a clarity and charm that is distinctly French, and the work boasts a number of hummable tunes. The second work, composed in 2006, is 'Faustus' by Broomfield-based composer (also pianist, clarinetist, arranger) John Heins, whose emotional and romantic music has been widely recorded and performed. Robert Schumann's great Piano Quartet, Op. 47, will conclude the program. The Boulder Piano Quartet, whose members include Korevaar, violinist Charles Wetherbee, violist Matthew Dane and cellist Thomas Heinrich, is currently in residence at Academy Chapel Hall, located at 970 Aurora Ave., in Boulder.

Kevin James Comes to the Warner

The Warner Theatre will welcome comedian and actor KEVIN JAMES back to the Main Stage on Saturday, June 27 at 8 pm. Tickets will go on sale to Warner Members on Wednesday, February 19 at 10 am and to the General Public on Friday, February 21 at 10 am. Kevin James began his career as a stand-up on the Long Island comedy scene. After being discovered at the 1996 Montreal Comedy Festival, he signed a network development deal to create his own sitcom. The King of Queens, which premiered in 1998, ran for nine seasons on CBS with James starring and executive producing, and it garnered him an Emmy nomination in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The show concluded its run in 2007 but continues to air daily in syndication across the country and around the world. James also starred in and executive produced the sitcom Kevin Can Wait for Sony Television and CBS.

Then in 2006, on the last day of the annual International Astronomical Union conference in Prague, everything changed. In a decision riddled with controversy, Pluto was officially reclassified as a dwarf planet.
