  3. Gordon Lightfoot

His honeyed baritone voice and mellow delivery made this Canadian singer-songwriter one of the biggest musical stars of the 1970s with a progression of chart-topping hits such as “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” “Carefree Highway,” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Admitted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2012, Lightfoot has long been revered by fellow musicians: Robbie Robertson of The Band called him “a national treasure” and Bob Dylan has said when he hears a Lightfoot song he wishes “it would last forever.” His folk-pop musical career has spanned five decades and produced over 200 recordings.
