Directed by John Savournin, musically directed by David Eaton (the team behind the smash hit 'The Pirates of Penzance 'at Opera Holland Park) and designed by Simon Bejer (winner of Best Opera at the Offies), audiences can expect first class performances from a terrific young cast, led by Catriona Hewitson in the title role (recently starring in Scottish Opera's 'The Gondoliers'), and a host of beloved CCO regulars, including Matthew Kellett and Catrine Kirkman.

Film at Lincoln Center announces Human Conditions: The Films of Mike Leigh, a retrospective of the widely lauded director’s career, running from May 27-June 8. For over half a century, Mike Leigh has directed films suffused with emotion and the realities of working-class struggle. From his debut feature, Bleak Moments (1971); to his ’70s television work for the BBC; to the breakout mid-career successes of Life Is Sweet (1990), Naked (1993), and Secrets and Lies (1996); through the historical films that have marked his output more recently, like Mr. Turner (2014) and Peterloo (2018), a Mike Leigh film always has an unmistakable energy and feeling for the triumphs and tragedies of everyday life.

Vancouver Opera will conclude its 2021-2022 season with HMS Pinafore by acclaimed creative duo W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Four performances of the wildly popular opera will be performed at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday April 30, Thursday May 5, and Saturday May 7 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday May 8.

Cincinnati Opera today shared updated cast, production, and schedule details for its 2022 Summer Festival, which will take place June 18 through July 31, 2022. Wright State Theatre presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s mistaken identity musical farce, THE GONDOLIERS in our Herbst Theatre from February 18th through February 27th. Written in 1889 by the great founders of English Musical Comedy, Sir Arthur Sullivan and Sir W.S. Gilbert, THE GONDOLIERS is at times as comic as a Saturday Night Live sketch, at other times touching and romantic, and always relentlessly tuneful. Gilbert and Sullivan are the forerunners of some of the greatest writers in the history of Musical Theatre, including Cole Porter, the Gershwins, and Stephen Sondheim. The influences of their comedy and music can be heard in even contemporary musicals like Book of Mormon, Avenue Q and Urinetown.

Vancouver Opera has announced the return of live performances for the 2021-2022 season. Vancouver Opera will present two days of outdoor performances at the šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl'a7shn (formerly QET Plaza) from September 18 and 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. followed by three extraordinary operas at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre starting in December.

The 2021-22 season will be conducted by Artistic Director and renowned conductor Ramón Tebar and include productions at the newly renovated Wang Opera Center, the II Festival Under the Stars, and an extraordinary concert with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov at Arthrex One.
