Bridging continents and 43 years of theatre history, ITP's 5th Season brings together the first professionally produced plays that launched the careers of two distinctive contemporary playwrights: OWNERS (1972) by the now legendary, groundbreaking British playwright Caryl Churchill and REALLY REALLY (2013) by the tenacious 27-year-old American playwright Paul Downs Calaizzo. Reliably timely, GLEE got tested - and passed with flying colors; a rainbow, no doubt. (more...)

Glee-Cap: Safety First, Safety Last, Safety Always
by Matt Tamanini - Apr 16, 2014

Somehow, I think your normal GLEE-capper, Robert Lawlor, knew this was going to be a down week for GLEE when he asked me to pinch-hit for him (don't worry if you don't know what that means, it's a sports term). While I have been generally quite pleased with the majority of episodes over the last two seasons, this episode felt like a throwback to Season 2 or 3, where far too many episodes felt like simply filler. While they might have ultimately been entertaining, they primarily served as a placeholder until we got to the more plot-specific episodes. With Kurt's attack last week and Rachel's 'Funny Girl' opening a week away, this episode felt disappointingly like a very low-stakes buffer between the two. (more...)

SOUND OFF: GLEE 100! The Original Ten Return
by Pat Cerasaro - Mar 19, 2014

The Beatles once sang, 'You say goodbye / I say hello,' and so it goes with the gang on FOX's hit musical dramedy GLEE - new beginnings; new endings; and, well, New Directions, too. GLEE's '100' episode reunited the original crew - minus, of course, the tragically deceased Cory Monteith, who played headlining football hero Finn and who was paid elegant tribute with grace and class both last week and this week in his absence - with the addition of the new gleeks added in the ensuing seasons. Nonetheless, what made us all fall in love with GLEE in the first place, lo, more than five seasons ago, was that original recipe - and it's still as savory, spicy, sweet and mouth-watering as ever, as last night's spectacular celebratory entry showcased in spades; and hearts, too. But, yet, we are forced to ask: is this the end or the beginning? (more...)
