Rubicon Theatre Company makes the holidays merry and musical with upcoming concerts for audiences of all ages. The Tiny Tots Holiday Concert and Santa Party takes place on December 19 at 11:00 a.m.; and the Harmonix Holiday Concert is presented on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Performances take place on the mainstage at Rubicon, which is located at the theatre's home located at 1006 E. Main (the corner of Main and Laurel) in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District. (more...)

In Of Mice and Men, writer John Steinbeck relates the tale of two lifelong friends whose hard-scrabble lives are played out against the backdrop of the Great Depression: two men whose bleak existence is made even more challenging by the cruel realities of the world at that time. Since its publication in 1937, Steinbeck's slim novella has inspired artists to offer different interpretations of the story - to varying degrees of success, to be certain - including numerous film versions, a Carlisle Floyd opera, ballets and stage productions, including a recent Broadway run and, closer to home, a production now onstage from Middle Tennessee's oldest community theater organization. The 49th season for the Alhambra Theatre & Dining has been so well received by its existing subscriber base, the iconic theater had to add staff to keep up with demand. Its nine-show slate received nearly a 100% renewal rate and the second wave of sales to newsletter subscribers received the highest volume in the six-year history of the new ownership group. Subscriber packages, known as Season Partnerships, as well as single-show tickets are on sale Thursday to the general public. (more...)

The first offering for 2015 of Musical Monday and Tuesday opened Monday night February 16 at the Musical Theater Heritage in Crown Center. Musical Monday has always been an audience favorite and for 2015, Musical Theater Heritage added Tuesdays to the performance schedule. Hosted by Tim Scott the production featured songs from the Broadway musical Big River, bluegrass, and country. The production was like a big river out of its banks flooding the theater with fantastic vocals by some of the best vocalist in Kansas City. (more...)

California Musical Theatre announced a varied lineup of musicals for the 2015 season of Sacramento Music Circus at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 65th season for what has become a Northern California summer tradition. The summer lineup will include two classics that are Music Circus audience favorites, Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady and Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim's West Side Story, as well as the Mississippi adventure Big River, the musical comedy Bye Bye Birdie, the magical journey Peter Pan, and a sixth show that will be offered as an option for season subscribers, the generation-defining Hair. Every year, despite a litany of warnings they come to the Big Apple with big dreams. Warnings like: “You have to pay your dues.” “It's a tough business, kid.” “How are you going to survive?” There's no such thing as an overnight success, yet still they come to be at “the top of the heap,” as Kander and Ebb so eloquently put it. The four young performers featured here haven't yet vaulted to the top of the cabaret heap, but they've certainly made their marks with excellent shows during 2014, while exhibiting the potential to get there.
