The Winter Park Playhouse, Central Florida's professional musical theatre, has announced their 2023-2024 Mainstage Series of musical productions. This new lineup of productions boasts a wide variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway hits and regional premieres for the Central Florida area. 

Award winning cabaret artists Amelia Ryan, Michaela Burger and Michael Griffiths will reprise their acclaimed show Simply Brill for four performances only this February and March. Following a sell-out season at the 2022 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, this hit show shares the story of the American teenage songwriters who transformed 1960s rock 'n' roll forever, and the building in which they did it.

LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS presents a very special event: the world premiere of the beatnik horror comedy musical, DID YOU SEE WHAT WALTER PAISLEY DID TODAY? with book, music, & lyrics by Randy Rogel, musical direction by Andrew Orbison, choreography by Connor Gallagher and developed and directed by BT McNicholl.

What Lisa Viggiano has as a performer that was not apparent in Jane Olivor’s work is a wry and ironic sense of humor. When Viggiano allows her spirit to come front and center, the show she has created with director Mark Nadler really flies. However, for much of the performance, it feels as if Ms. Viggiano is attempting to constrain her own ebullient personality into the earnest, serious personality of Jane Olivor. I left the show wanting less Jane Olivor and more Lisa Viggiano. In short, Jane is cramping Lisa’s style.

What did our critic think of CELEBRITY AUTOBIOGRAPHY at Tilles Center? Back in 2005, Comedy Central had a roast for Pamela Anderson. One of the roasters on the dais was the late, great Bea Arthur; she was there as both she and Anderson are advocates of P.E.T.A., which the roast was a fundraiser for. Instead of following the typical route of insulting Anderson and the other celebrities on the dais, Arthur decided to perform a live reading of Pamela Anderson's autobiographical novel Star Struck. Anderson's words mixed with Ms. Arthur's wry delivery and infamous glares led this to be one of the funniest sets of the evening. After seeing that performance, I literally thought 'My God, what a brilliant idea. Wouldn't it be amazing if Bea Arthur, or any celebrity, performed dramatic readings of celebrity memoirs?' Luckily, Emmy award nominee Eugene Pack capitalized on this idea with co-creator Dayle Reyfel and together they brought Celebrity Autobiography to life.
