Met Announces Three-Week Schedule For Nightly Met Opera Streams

The Met has announced themed lineups for three weeks of its Nightly Met Opera Streams, the company's ongoing series of encore Live in HD presentations and classic telecasts streamed on its website during the Covid-19 closure. The schedule begins with a week, leading up to Father's Day on June 20, comprising a selection of operas featuring themes of fatherhood.

Wagnerians in Concert features sopranos Christine Goerke and Elza van den Heever, tenor Andreas Schager, and baritone Michael Volle, live from the Hessisches Staatstheater, in Wiesbaden, Germany, on May 8. Three Divas showcases sopranos Ailyn Pérez and Nadine Sierra and mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, live from the Opéra Royal-Château de Versailles, in France, on May 22. Both concerts will be streamed live on the Met's website at 1pm EST/7pm CET, and will then be available on demand for 14 days.

50th Annual George London Foundation Competition Is Postponed to 2022

The 50th annual George London Foundation Competition for young American and Canadian opera singers, which was scheduled to take place in April 2021, has been postponed until next year. The competition typically confers five George London Awards of $10,000 each. The remaining finalists receive Encouragement Awards of $1,000.
