The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Interim Executive Director; David McCoy, Chairman of the Board), dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, has announced Robert Creighton (Cagney), and Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens) will join some of Broadway's best - Carolee Carmello (Finding Neverland), Sutton Foster (Anything Goes), Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago), Rory O'Malley (The Book of Mormon), and Bernadette Peters (George M) (all subject to change) - scheduled to appear as guest performers to honor legendary Oscar® and Tony® Award-winner Joel Grey with the 25th Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre at the 2016 Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala on Monday, December 5, 2016 at The Asia Society (725 Park Avenue). While Debra Barsha and Hollye Levin's A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME isn't the first musical to contrast the accepted female gender roles of the 1950s with the liberated revolution of the 1960s (Off-Broadway's second visit from THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES is still running at the Kirk.) the York's fun and frothy new entry features a dynamite cast and enough tuneful cleverness for a brightly entertaining evening. James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director and Evans Haile, Interim Executive Director cut the ribbon last night and revealed the newly renovated York Theater interior at Saint Peter's Church at Citicorp. The project was aided in part by New York City's Cultural Affairs Dept. and Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, who injected the event into the Congressional Record.  All agreed the new seats was quite comfortable and it was bottoms up at the celebration at The York Theatre last night.   (more...)

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Interim Executive Director; David McCoy, Chairman of the Board), dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, in association with Staci Levine and What's Cookin' LLC, has announced the complete cast and creative team for the New York premiere of the saucy new musical A Taste of Things to Come, with book, music and lyrics by Debra Barsha (Radiant Baby) and Hollye Levin (Funny Business).  Making her directorial debut is Lorin Latarro (Waitress), who will do double-duty as choreographer; music direction is by Gillian Berkowitz (Unexpected Joy).  The four-member, all-female cast will feature Janet Dacal (Wonderland),Paige Faure (Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella), Allison Guinn (On the Town), and Autumn Hurlbert (Legally Blonde, York's Tomorrow Morning). When looking for memorable images from America in the late 50's/early 60's, you are bound to find some old standards. Mom in the kitchen baking, Dad returning home from a long day at the office, children playing with their Slinky/Mr. Potato Head while drinking Tang, or the iconic footage of man walking on the moon for the first time. These images immediately place you firmly in an era where tradition crashed headlong into a world of new sights and sounds. And it is these images that brilliantly set the stage (and the mood) during the overture for Goodspeed Musicals' new production of the classic Adams/Strouse/Stewart musical, BYE BYE BIRDIE; and they signal the nostalgic, yet amazingly fresh romp the audience will experience for the next two hours.
