Gabrielle Stravelli Extends Metropolitan Room Engagement Through 8/13

GABRIELLE STRAVELLI, the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist, has extended her exclusive engagement at The Metropolitan Room through August. After sold out shows and amazing reviews - including a rave in The New York Times - a special encore performance has been added on Wednesday, August 13, in addition to remaining shows on Tuesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 31 at 7:00 PM. Stravelli, called an 'outstanding singer' by The Wall Street Journal, is known from her tours with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, appearances at the 92nd Street Y and her long-running Soho jazz brunch. Her new show, directed by nightlife legend Marilyn Maye, includes selections from her debut CD Waiting in Vain previews tracks for her upcoming sophomore release. The evening features classic standards like 'While We're Young' and 'Goody Goody,' pop hits such as 'Young Folks' (Peter, Bjorn and John) and 'Have You Ever Seen the Rain' (John Fogerty), in addition to distinctive original compositions. She is joined by Joshua Richman on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums. (more...)

Karen Olivo to Teach Master Class at Minnetonka Theatre

The Tony Award-winning actress Karen Olivo is coming to Minnetonka Theatre to teach a Master Class for high school students. This exciting two-day event is open to all Minnetonka High School theatre students interested in improving their audition techniques, and will include workshops, mock auditions, and even private coaching for the cast of Minnetonka's student summer stock production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (August 8-16). PORGY AND BESS National Tour Earns Highest-Grossing Week in Charlotte

The National Tour of THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS, winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, ends on a high note grossing $1,030,014 for the week closing July 20, 2014, making it the highest-grossing week on the tour. More than 15,000 people attended the show in Charlotte. (more...)

She's Back in Just No Time at All! Andrea Martin Will Return to Tony Award-Winning Role in Broadway's PIPPIN

The producers of the Tony Award winning Best Revival of a Musical PIPPIN just announced that Andrea Martin, who won 2013 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for creating the role of "Berthe" in the production, will return to the role for 24 performances only, Tuesday September 2nd through Sunday September 21st. Tony Award winner Priscilla Lopez will now perform the role of "Berthe" through Sunday, August 31. PIPPIN is now in its second smash year at Broadway's Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). The world premiere of the musical FINDING NEVERLAND, with music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Elliot Kennedy, book by James Graham, directed by Diane Paulus with choreography by Mia Michaels, will be presented at A.R.T. by special arrangement with Harvey Weinstein. The production of the new musical began previews July 23 and runs through Sunday, September 28. If all goes well, the musical is slated to hit Broadway Spring 2015. Check out a first look below! MTC's Lisa McNulty Named New Producing Artistic Director of Women's Project Theater
