BWW Interview: Broadway Actor Chase Ramsey on New Streaming Musical BLINK

Hale Center Theater Orem is premiering a new contemporary musical, BLINK, via streaming. The show was written over a matter of weeks entirely during quarantine by David Paul Smith and Chase Keala Ramsey, who is the standby for the lead role of Elder Cunningham in the Broadway cast of THE BOOK OF MORMON. Ramsey spoke with BroadwayWorld about creating the show and the effects of the pandemic on his work.

A favorite tradition of Orem's SCERA is A NIGHT OF BROADWAY--the annual concert that showcases local performers in songs from musicals. The show will go on this year in a special fully produced 'Quarantine Edition' that has been newly rehearsed, designed, and professionally filmed especially for streaming through social distancing. Of numerous operaphiles I have encountered, there is a fair amount of partisanship when it comes  to COSI FAN TUTTE by Mozart.  People either love it or dislike it.  I believe the plot is partially to blame; an aging bachelor challenges two younger friends to test their fiancees' devotion and supposedly steadfast natures. They young men disguise themselves and woo each other's prospective mates.

The Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program Presents A Concert Of Comic Masterpieces

Washington Nation Opera closes out the 2018-2019 season with a sampling of famous works from three of opera's most iconic comedies. The rising stars of Washington National Opera's training program, the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists,  command the stage in a program entirely their own. Comedy and chaos ensue as the Young Artists perform a program of beloved comic scenes from three classic operas: Rossini's La Cenerentola, Strauss's Die Fledermaus, and Verdi's Falstaff. Falstaff, Verdi's final opera, is one of three operas he based on Shakespeare's work, the other two being Macbeth and Otello. WNO performs Otello this fall to open the 2019-2020 season. Joseph Colaneri conducts the WNO Orchestra for this program and David Paul directs.

Casting Announced For CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY At Segerstrom Center

The producers and Segerstrom Center for the Arts are pleased to announce casting for the national tour of Roald Dahl's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, which will play Segerstrom Hall May 28 - June 9, 2019. As previously announced, Broadway veteran Noah Weisberg (South Pacific, Enron, Elf, Legally Blonde) will star as the extraordinary chocolate maker, Willy Wonka, with Henry Boshart (age 10), Collin Jeffery (age 11) and Rueby Wood (age 11), alternating in the title role of Charlie Bucket.

North Carolina Opera Announces 2019-20 Season

North Carolina Opera has announced the company's 2019-20 season, which includes fully-staged productions of Mozart's The Magic Flute (Apr. 3 & 5, 2020) and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (Jan. 24 & 26, 2020), a concert performance of Act III from Wagner's Siegfried (Nov. 10, 2019), and a vocal recital by superstar tenor Lawrence Brownlee (Feb. 18, 2020). The announcement was made by the company's General Director Eric Mitchko at the 2019-20 Season Reveal, which was held on Tuesday, March 26 at CAM Raleigh and graciously sponsored by the Meredith College Department of Music, CITRIX, Mitchell's, Queen of Wines, Savills, Glenwood Agency Real Estate, and Hibernian Pub.

All the music is Mozart's, and the lyrics are from the original Italian libretto.
