When we last saw our hero, Harry Houdini was trapped under the ice of the Mississippi River, a death-defying trick gone a bit off. As Part II of The History Channel's miniseries HOUDINI begins, he's still trapped and it's looking bad. Then, he sees what appears to be a mermaid with his mother's face. This vision leads him to safety. In this manner, the show's tone and purpose shifts. We have left the saga of a man compelled by his need to escape and laugh in the face of death. Part one of HISTORY's miniseries event HOUDINI (#Houdini), starring Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist) as The Great Harry Houdini, mesmerized 3.7 million Total Viewers last night, making it cable's number one miniseries premiere of 2014. HOUDINI, which follows the epic tales of the master escape artist as he emerges as the world's first bonafide superstar, also averaged averaged 1.5 million Adults 25-54 viewers and 1.2 million Adults 18-49 viewers in its9:00pm time period, according to Nielsen Fast Cable Ratings. Harry Houdini – America's premier Escape Artist, Showman extraordinaire, potentially a template for that most American of literary creations, the Superhero, and, if you believe the premise of the current miniseries on The History Channel, a person psychologically addicted to running away from his own person and reality. HOUDINI, the two-parter that began Monday night and concludes on Tuesday on the History Channel, is based on a psychiatrist's biography of the great performer, which was subtitled “A Mind in Chains.” However, from the show and from its star Adrien Brody's, portrayal, he was less a man in chains than a man on the run. Last night, (Wednesday, April 16) Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody stopped in for an intimate dinner with friends at Social House inside The Shops at Crystals. The highly-acclaimed actor, best known for his role in "The Pianist," arrived with his group just after 8:00 p.m. and took a seat in the main dining room. Brody and his party indulged in a number of specialty items such as the Citrus peel miso cod, Tempura lobster sushi roll and Social House's iconic Yellowtail jalapeño sashimi, which features a flavorsome combination of Calamansi soy sauce and garnish of cilantro. Richard Thomas & Kristen Connolly Set for The Old Globe's OTHELLO

The Old Globe today announced two of the stars of Shakespeare's classic tragedy Othello, the first show of the Globe's 2014 Summer Shakespeare Festival. Making their Globe debuts are Emmy Award-winner Richard Thomas ('The Americans,' 'The Waltons') as Iago and Kristen Connolly ('House of Cards,' The Cabin in the Woods) as Desdemona. Both artists continue collaborations with Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein that began in New York: Thomas starred in Edelstein's critically acclaimed production of Timon of Athens at The Public Theater in 2011, and Connolly in three Shakespeare plays that Edelstein helped produce at The Public.
