According to Variety, Nic Pizzolatto and Robert Downey Jr. are in talks to star in a new drama project for HBO, although reps for both the cabler and the actors have declined to comment.

Sources reveal that the project will be based on Downey Jr.'s "Perry Mason" reboot, which he had originally been developing as a feature film at Warner Bros. Pizzolatto, Joe Horacek, Downey Jr., and his producing partner and wife, Susan Downey, are set to serve as executive producers.

The series would mark Downey Jr.'s first starring role on television since appearing in the early 2000's legal drama "Ally McBeal." The original "Perry Mason" series, starring Raymond Burr, aired on CBS from 1957 to 1966.
