Tony Winner Steve Kazee Signs on for CBS's Nancy Drew Pilot

ONCE's Steve Kazee is out to solve the mystery in his next TV role.

According to Deadline, the stage and screen actor just signed on for CBS's pilot DREW, based on the Nancy Drew book series. He will appear as the male lead opposite Sarah Shahi in the title role.

DREW is described as "a contemporary take on the character from the books, with Nancy, now in her 30s, working as a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world."

Kazee will play 'Ned', "an investigative reporter for the New York Times and Nancy's former boyfriend."

DREW is written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and directed by James Strong.

Kazee currently stars on the small screen in SHAMELESS, will soon be seen on NASHVILLE, and has recently appeared on TV in LEGENDS, DROP DEAD DIVA, ELEMENTARY, WORKING CLASS, CSI, NCIS, NUMB3RS, MEDIUM and CONVICTION. The stage vet last strutted Broadway in ONCE; his performance won him a Tony Award in 2012 for originating the role of 'Guy', as well as a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Before that, Kazee appeared onstage in Broadway's TO BE OR NOT TO BE, 110 IN THE SHADE, SEASCAPE and SPAMALOT.
