The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop will present its autumn Smoker, a semiannual showcase of new songs from Workshop writers, on Thursday, November 21 in BMI's New York office.

The event, scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM in the 30th floor media room, is free and open to members of the entertainment industry as well as Workshop members. Reservations are necessary.

The Smoker, now in its 16th season, is modeled after informal social gatherings at Cambridge University, where the Workshop's two-time Tony Award-winning and Oscar-nominated writer Maury Yeston performed his songs during his undergraduate days.

The event is co-produced by Frank Evans and Frederick Freyer.

The Smoker will feature songs by the teams of Kevin Wanzor & Andrew Fox, Sean Patterson & Natalie Tenenbaum, Anna Dagmar & Kevin Wanzor, Phoebe Kreutz & Daniel Israel (The Dirty Hippie Jam Band Project), Sarah Ziegler & Ben Wexler, Caleb Damschroder (pictured) & Gilad Cohen, Michele Foor & Frank Spitznagel, and Noel Carey & Bryan Treitler, along with the composer-lyricists Mary Liz McNamara, Noel Carey and Katya Stanislavskaya.

Performers include Megan McGinnis (Les Miserables, Little Women), Greg Tate (Camelot, Chicago Light Opera), Tommy McDowell (American Idiot, 1st National), Ryan G. Dunkin: (Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story 1st National), Jeff Ward (Chelsea Madchen, Bootleg Theatre, LA and in December at Joe's Pub) and Remy Zaken Spring Awakening.

Previous Smoker songwriters include Robert Lopez & Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), Nancy Ford & Gretchen Cryer (I'm Getting My Act Together...), Eric Rockwell & Joann Bogart (The Musical of Musicals, The Musical), Amanda Green & Tom Kitt (High Fidelity, Hands on Hardbody), Kitt & Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal), Benj Pasek (Dogfight, A Christmas Story) and Kellen Blair & Joe Kinosian (Murder for Two).

The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, recipient of a 2006 Tony Honor, Drama Desk Award and Drama League Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre, was founded in 1961 by the late Lehman Engel, dean of American musical theatre, to create a setting where new writers could learn their craft.

BMI's New York office is located at 7 World Trade Center / 250 Greenwich Street. For more information and reservations, call (212) 220-3177 or email Ssantana@bmi.com.
