ROCKY Brings the Fight to the Tonys

This year's Tony Awards will literally be a knockout! According to the Associated Press, Broadway's Rocky will be preforming the iconic boxing match between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed right on the Radio City Music Hall's stage.

Andy Karl, Tony-nominee for his portrayal of Rocky, commented, "The adrenaline will be high, but I want it to look really good. I'm not so much nervous as much as I can't wait to get in there and do this for people."

In just two and a half minutes, the cast of Rocky will have the chance to highlight their show for millions of viewers. With scene will begin with a workout montage that will then transition into the fight between Rocky and Apollo, played by Terence Archie. Not only is the choreography amazing (which is Tony nominated), but the boxing ring is also an exact replica of the Broadway version. The ring will spin throughout the fight in order for viewers to catch all the different angles of the match.

The cast has been going over the choreography for the number in front of cameras, learning how to match their movements for them. Kelly Devine, Rocky's choreographer, stated, "It is very hard in those moments - much like an opening night - to completely relax. You're counting in your head, you're watching the feed happen, you're watching the transition. There's so much going on so I'm usually a bit of a nervous wreck."

The 68th Annual Tony Awards will be televised live from New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sunday June 8th from 8-11 P.M. (ET/PT time delay) on CBS in the U.S. and internationally to over thirty countries including Japan (WOWOW), Australia (Foxtel), New Zealand (Sky), Philippines (ABS-CBN), Canada (CHCH) and on Pramer Film & Arts throughout South and Central America and the Caribbean and via AFN to American servicemen worldwide. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. Hugh Jackman will be hosting the evening.
