Ever wonder which Broadway tunes have inspired your favorite performers? Check back every Tuesday for ON RECORD- to find out which cast recordings have made an impact on Broadway's brightest stars.

In this week's edition, we hear from Megan McGinnis, who is currently starring as 'Jerusha' in Daddy Long Legs- playing at the Davenport Theatre. Read on to find out her top five picks!

1. The Sound of Music

All I did when I was a kid was listen to cast recordings. I fear I've lost a bit of that, as musicals became more my profession than my love. It's a bit sad! But these cast recordings were everything to me growing up. I would play the overture of The Sound of Music over and over and over again, and just dream of one day hearing it as a performer!

2. Violet

The original cast recording and the revival - both are spectacular, because Jeanine Tesori's score is just everything. Every time "Bring Me to Light" begins, I burst into tears. My husband and I were lucky enough to have our dear friend, and original "Flick," Michael McElroy sing a version of it during our wedding ceremony!

3. Miss Saigon

I could not get enough of this as a kid. I was infatuated with Lea Salonga's voice and all I wanted to do was sing like her! So I would sing along to everything she did on that recording. And then I was lucky enough to do Les Miserables with her, can you believe it?!

Buy it today at Amazon or iTunes.

4. Sutton Foster's Wish

Okay so I will admit that I'm also on this one (singing the duet "Flight"), but I can say objectively that this album is incredible! Every track is wonderful. I'm so taken with the arrangements that Sutton and Michael Rafter created, with many songs that are familiar to us (and some not so!). They created a beautiful piece of art.

Buy it today at Amazon or iTunes.

5. Waitress

It's not quite a cast recording yet, but I will be the first in line to buy it. Sara Bareilles, the brilliant singer-songwriter, has released "What's Inside: Songs from Waitress" which has nine songs from the upcoming show. I saw a performance of Waitress at ART in Boston, and I'm obsessed. Ms. Bareilles' interpretations on her record are beautiful and watching Jessie Mueller and the cast SOAR with this score made me fall in love with theatre all over again. I can't wait to wear out the cast recording! I guess these days that doesn't mean much, when everything is digital. But you know what I mean!
