National Society of Arts and Letters Will Host Musical Theatre Competition for Young Performers

The New York chapter of the National Society for Arts and Letters is holding a musical theatre competition for young performers between the ages of 18 and 26. First place chapter winners will be sent, all expenses paid, to the national competition in Phoenix, Arizona, May 19-22, 2016. Those who compete at the national competition have the opportunity to win a first place award of $10,000, along with a series of other significant awards. Performers must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success.

Chapter-level auditions will be held in New York City, Sunday, March 20, 2016. Contestants must prepare two songs from the American musical theatre repertoire and one monologue. Applicants selected to proceed to nationals must appear in person in Phoenix, AZ from May 19 - 22, 2016.

National Society of Arts and Letters has been in existence since 1944. Over seventy years of competitions have provided students with financial awards that allowed them to achieve success in their chosen fields of artistic endeavor. Past notable winners have included Megan Hilty, Jessye Norman, and Shirley MacLaine.

There is an application fee of $25, payable to the National Society of Arts and Letters - New York. Applications must be received by the New York chapter no later than March 15 and applicants will then be contacted with further details.
