Embraced by generations of families, the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes is a one-of-a-kind tradition where the unmistakable spirit of Christmas in New York comes alive. Since their debut in the Christmas Spectacular in 1933, The Rockettes have danced into the hearts of millions and spread joy to people of all ages. Their precision technique continues to inspire fans across generations and their talent and athleticism is unrivaled.

So what does it take to achieve the iconic Rockettes look? BroadwayWorld met with Elizabeth Sousek and Tori Gregson for a behind the scenes peek!

How long have you been a Radio City Rockette?

Elizabeth Sousek: 12 Years!

Tori Gregson: 5 years!

How long does it take you to get ready for a show?

E: It takes me about one hour total do my hair, make-up and warm-up before performing in the Christmas Spectacular. I really enjoy the ritual of readying myself for the Radio City stage. My hair is curly, so I need to wet it before smoothing it up into a French twist. Then I apply a moisturizing primer and my make-up and then finish with false lashes and a red lip stain.

T: I like to get to Radio City Music Hall early; normally an hour and a half before the Christmas Spectacular. I like taking plenty of time to do my hair, makeup and warm up before the show. To achieve the Rockette look, I use Double Wear by Este Lauder for my foundation base and apply a powder on top. A light eyeshadow and eyeliner application is completed with a glamorous false lash. We are famous for our Rockette red lip; I make sure to work with a lip liner before applying my red lipstick of choice.

What's your finishing touch?

E: After I finish my makeup application, I spray my face with a hydrating finishing spray. It keeps my skin moisturized and happy and my make-up set for 90 minutes of dancing!

T: Before hitting the stage, I add a bit of highlighter under the arch of my eyebrows and make sure my blush is vibrant enough for the bright lights of Radio City!

What was your reaction like the first time you saw yourself in full Rockette hair/makeup/costume?

E: Honestly, I think I was too nervous and focused on my first show as a Rockette to take in the moment. But when I saw myself in a photo onstage wearing one of the many iconic Rockette costumes, I finally took in the exciting and incredible achievement.

T: It had been my dream to be a Radio City Rockette since I was 8 years old. With lots of hard work and dedication I was able to achieve my dream and when I first saw myself with the complete Rockette look, it brought tears to my eyes. I was so thankful for the costume, makeup and French twist to finally be a part of my reality and to be living my dream!

What's your favorite part of the Rockette look?

E: My favorite part about the Rockette look is that it's so timeless and classic. It plays up the natural features of your face for the stage and adds a little vintage glamour with a full lash and a bold red lip.

T: It's hard to pick one part of the Radio City Rockette look to call my favorite; I adore wearing a wonderful bold red lip, eyelashes and the French twist! However, the end result is definitely my favorite part of the Rockette look. Once completed, it means I get to go onto the Radio City stage and live my dreams with these amazing, strong women by my side.
