THEATRE ROYAL BRIGHTON (TRB) has been named Most Welcoming Theatre at today's TMA Theatre and Management Awards.

The award for Most Welcoming Theatre recognises the achievements of a theatre, arts centre or venue in providing an exceptional level of customer service which sets a high standard for the industry regardless of scale or type of venue.

Theatre Royal Brighton faced fierce competition in this category from the Nottingham Playhouse and Cardiff's Millennium Centre.

Julien Boast, TRB Chief Executive, said: "We pride ourselves in our high standard of customer service so this is a great achievement for everyone at Theatre Royal Brighton. We are all delighted with the award. The past decade has also seen significant changes to the theatre with increased investment to improve access and public facilities."

TRB is a major employer in Brighton and creates work for actors, theatre administrators, technicians, front line staff and creative freelancers.

The TMA Theatre and Management Awards celebrate the very best in British theatre, opera and dance. These unique awards recognise the achievements of artists and companies based throughout the UK. Today's award ceremony was held at Wilton's Music Hall in London.

Entrants for the Most Welcoming Theatre Award were required to include a description of their access policy; details of customer service initiatives; and the strategic approach to the promotion of customer relations including staff training or professional development.

Entrants were judged on the significance and sustainability of the work undertaken by the company within its overall operation.
