BWW Review: EVERYBODY at Shakespeare Theatre Company
by Rachael Goldberg - October 24, 2019
'Everybody' may not be for, well, everybody - it's a quirky play that tackles humanity, life, death, and our own fragile existence head-on. But those who are brave enough to face these uncomfortable truths are rewarded with a fast-talking, quick-witted, deep-thinking performance.

BWW Review: KID PRINCE AND PABLO at Kennedy Center
by Jane Horwitz - October 24, 2019
This rap-infused, woke update of Mark Twain's The Prince and The Pauper, a world premiere theater piece for young audiences commissioned by the Kennedy Center, has many charms and much humor, even if it goes more than a little heavy on the agitprop for audiences under the age of 10.
BWW Review: SHE KILLS MONSTERS at Rorschach Theatre
by Roger Catlin - October 24, 2019
There are signs that the grandaddy of role-playing games, Dungeons & Dragons, is making a comeback, even among the kind of kids who'd usually be glued to their computer games. But its depiction - and general celebration - in Qui Nguyen's 'She Kills Monsters' currently being revived by Rorschach Theatre at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, only seems to show it fading into the past faster than it did the last time it unfolded on this very stage in 2014.

by Andrew White - October 23, 2019
Prologue Theatre is putting its own stamp on a play that has acquired a huge cult following over the years, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. Bristling with edgy, memorable performances, the cast takes you right back into the hell of those teenage years, when hurting people, both physically and emotionally, is done as casually as ordering a latte or chucking a tater tot across the cafeteria.

BWW Review: MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE 3000 LIVE at National Theatre
by Mary Lincer - October 20, 2019
So much theatre nowadays derives from other media, for better or worse. It can be fun to watch teacups dance and phantoms pilot gondolas, but all mermaids do not get creatively adapted equally. Fortunately Mystery Science Theatre 3000 Live depends on its hybrid nature: the fun of it comes from the fact that it's salad. Once a TV show that combined bad movies with snarky comedy, now at the National Theatre, it's still bad movies and comic takedowns of them, but also people, bots (er, puppets), songs, and sketches.
