Classic Stage Company ha annunciato il cast completo per The Baker’s Wife, il leggendario musical di Stephen Schwartz - Joseph Stein che non ha mai ricevuto prima una produzione completa a New York.
Diretta da Gordon Greenberg, la ripresa aprirà la stagione 2025-26 della CSC al Lynn F. Angelson Theater (136 East 13th Street), in programma dal 23 ottobre al 14 dicembre, con la serata di apertura fissata per l’11 novembre 2025.
Come già annunciato, la vincitrice del Tony Award Ariana DeBose reciterà nel ruolo di Geneviève accanto a Scott Bakula nel ruolo di Aimable Castagnet. A unirsi a loro ci saranno Savannah Lee Birdsong, Arnie Burton, il nominato al Tony Robert Cuccioli, Alma Cuervo, il nominato al Tony Kevin Del Aguila, Bill English, Zachary Freier-Harrison, Samantha Gershman, Nathan Lee Graham, il nominato al Tony Judy Kuhn, Kelly Lester, Sally Murphy, Manu Narayan, Mason Olshavsky, Kevin William Paul, Will Roland, e Hailey Thomas.
BroadwayWorld ha parlato in esclusiva con Nathan Lee Graham, che ha dichiarato: "È emozionante eseguire una colonna sonora precoce di Stephen Schwartz. È emozionante tornare indietro nel tempo e chiedersi: ‘Quali erano le sue influenze in quel momento?’ E, per me, personalmente, interpretare il Marchese sarà molto divertente, anche se non supporto - in linea di principio - i protettori. Lo chiamerò un imprenditore!" Graham ha continuato a condividere: "Credo che l'affarista losco sarà molto evidente a tutti gli spettatori, perché stiamo affrontando molte, chiamiamole, ombre, oggi. Sarà terribilmente divertente rendere qualcuno che è un po’ blu, simpatico e accessibile. Sono pronto per questa sfida."
Riguardo a cosa significhi per Graham far parte della prima produzione completa a NYC dello spettacolo, ha detto: "Certo, ci sono temi grandi in The Baker’s Wife, ma chiunque e tutti potranno relazionarsi con essi. È emozionante fare questo con un gruppo di amici talentuosi."
In un tranquillo villaggio francese, un panettiere e sua moglie portano pane fresco… e pettegolezzi freschi. Quando la tentazione si risveglia e i cuori si allontanano, l'intera città viene travolta in un vortice di romanticismo, malizia e melodia. La produzione presenta la colonna sonora ascendente di Schwartz - incluso il amato ballata “Meadowlark” - e il libro di Stein basato sul film di Marcel Pagnol e Jean Giono La Femme du Boulanger.
