Classic Stage Company a annoncé la distribution complète de The Baker’s Wife, la légendaire comédie musicale de Stephen Schwartz et Joseph Stein, qui n’a jamais bénéficié d’une production à grande échelle à New York auparavant.
Réalisée par Gordon Greenberg, la reprise ouvrira la saison 2025-26 de CSC au Lynn F. Angelson Theater (136 East 13th Street), du 23 octobre au 14 décembre, la première ayant lieu le 11 novembre 2025.
Comme annoncé précédemment, la lauréate du Tony Award Ariana DeBose interprète Geneviève aux côtés de Scott Bakula dans le rôle d’Aimable Castagnet. Ils sont rejoints par Savannah Lee Birdsong, Arnie Burton, le nommé aux Tony Awards Robert Cuccioli, Alma Cuervo, le nommé aux Tony Awards Kevin Del Aguila, Bill English, Zachary Freier-Harrison, Samantha Marisol Gershman, Nathan Lee Graham, la nommée aux Tony Awards Judy Kuhn, Kelly Lester, Sally Murphy, Manu Narayan, Mason Olshavsky, Kevin William Paul, Will Roland, et Hailey Thomas.
BroadwayWorld a discuté en exclusivité avec Nathan Lee Graham, qui a partagé, "C'est excitant de faire une partition précoce de Stephen Schwartz. C'est excitant de remonter dans le temps et de se dire: ‘Je me demande quelles étaient ses influences à l'époque?’. Et, pour moi personnellement, jouer le Marquis, ça va être tellement amusant, même si je ne soutiens pas—par principe—les proxénètes. Je vais l'appeler un entrepreneur!" Graham a poursuivi en partageant, "Je pense que l'homme d'affaires louche sera très visible pour tous les membres du public, car nous traitons aujourd'hui de beaucoup de, disons, choses louches. Ça va être terriblement amusant de rendre quelqu'un qui est un peu véreux aimable et accessible. Je suis prêt pour ce défi."
Sur ce que cela signifie pour Graham de faire partie de la première production intégrale à grande échelle de NYC du spectacle, il a partagé, "Bien sûr, il y a de grands thèmes dans The Baker’s Wife, mais tout le monde pourra s'y rapporter. C’est excitant de faire cela avec une bande d’amis talentueux."
Dans un village français tranquille, un boulanger et sa femme apportent du pain frais… et des ragots tout frais. Lorsque la tentation remue et les cœurs vagabondent, toute la ville est entraînée dans un tourbillon de romance, d’espièglerie et de mélodie. La production présente la partition envoûtante de Schwartz—comprenant la ballade bien-aimée “Meadowlark”—et le livret de Stein basé sur le film La Femme du Boulanger de Marcel Pagnol et Jean Giono.
L’équipe créative inclut Stephanie Klemons (Chorégraphie), Charlie Alterman (Direction Musicale), Jason Sherwood (Scénographie), Catherine Zuber (Conception de Costume), Bradley King (Conception de Lumière), et Jason Crystal (Conception Sonore). Le casting est réalisé par The Telsey Office (Craig Burns, CSA).
