A rare comedy-drama from the author of A Streetcar Named Desire, this play tells of Serafina, a young widow, who defiantly and proudly maintains the illusion of her dead husband’s faithfulness, allowing herself to become isolated from the society around her. When she meets Alvaro and recognises in him “the body of her husband with the face of a clown,” a warm dramatic comedy ensues.
