Jonís girlfriend wants to get married and leave New York for a more conventional life, his best friend is earning a fortune on Madison Avenue, and Jon is still waiting on tables while trying to create the great American musical. An inspiring story of a struggling artist who chooses to follow his dreams, tick, tick... BOOM! features a dynamic pop-rock score blended with traditional musical theater styles, in what many believe to be Larsonís homage to Stephen Sondheim.

UC Berkeley's Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) opens its 2018-19 season with 70 Scenes of Halloween, a spooky, scrambled, and sly comedy that transforms the unraveling of a marriage into a frighteningly funny and fantastical romp. Written by experimental playwright Jeffrey M Jones, this fast-moving scuffle will be presented in an intimate configuration on the Zellerbach Playhouse stage on the UC Berkeley campus. Rebecca Johannsen Returns To San Diego CSU San Marcos

In a unique collaboration with CSU San Marcos, theatre artist and educator  Rebecca Johannsen returns to San Diego to present her moving and powerful exploration of female soldiers. Women at War is devised from Johannsen's interviews conducted with the US Army's Female Engagement Team (FET) Unit, deployed to Afghanistan from 2012-2013. The unit's mission was to engage with the local female Afghan population to build relationships and gather intelligence. They often found themselves in combat zones before women were legally allowed in combat, and received intensive physical training to prepare for the mission. The production runs November 7-10. Talk-backs will follow each production in collaboration with CSUSM Veteran's Center.     (more...)

Applications Now Open For Art House's Inaugural INKubator Writing Group

For the first time, Art House will be cultivating a group of playwrights as part of the INKubator program's new play development initiative. Selected playwrights will meet on a monthly basis between October 2018 and May 2019 to share their work and further the growth of a specific piece that each playwright is developing. Alex Tobey, resident director of the program, will be joined by special guests each month (playwrights, directors, dramaturgs, literary managers) who will moderate conversations focused on peer feedback, guidance, and personalized support for each playwright's individual process.  In the spring, each writer will team up with a professional director to present a public reading or workshop performance as a part of the new annual Jersey City Spring Festival of New Plays.
