Disney’s THE LION KING celebrated 25 triumphant years in the West End’s Lyceum Theatre on the afternoon of Sunday, 20 October with a special gala performance attended by the original creatives of the show including Julie Taymor, Lebo M, Richard Hudson, Irene Mecchi, Roger Allers and Donald Holder. Designed by leading garden designer Juliet Sargeant, the garden received three awards at the festival; Best Show Garden, the RHS Environmental Innovation Award and a Silver Gilt Medal*. The award-winning West End production of Disney’s THE LION KING will welcome Owen Chaponda (Back to the Future; The Colour Purple) and Merryl Ansah (Heathers; Crazy for You), who will step into the iconic roles of ‘Simba’ and ‘Nala’, this spring.

The UK and Ireland Tour of Disney's The Lion King will welcome 12 new members to its cast of over 50 actors, singers and dancers this winter. The award winning landmark musical is currently playing a season at Manchester Palace until 11 March, where over 300,000 people will experience the show during the only North West dates.

The Walt Disney Company UK and Ireland and Manchester Theatres have announced on sale dates for a seven week extension of the musical THE LION KING, opening at the Palace Theatre later this year.

Performances of the West End production of The Lion King have been cancelled today and tomorrow (December 14 and 15) due to COVID-19 cases within the company.

This comes after several other West End productions have had to be put on pause, including Hairspray which has halted performances, The Prince of Egypt, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cinderella.

The Walt Disney Company UK today announced that Nick Afoa will be joining the touring production of THE LION KING from 30 April. Afoa is currently starring in the role in London's West End, where he has performed as Simba for three years after making his stage debut in the Australian production of THE LION KING in 2013.
