BroadwayWorld has learned that Roger Bart, who plays Doc Brown in Back to the Future The Musical, has tested positive for Covid-19.

Roger Bart, who plays Doc Brown, has tested positive for Covid-19, so his understudy, Mark Oxtoby, will go on as Doc Brown for the first time tonight. The official press opening for the production has been delayed.

Since its release in 1985 Back to the Future has been an iconic film. It made a star out of Michael J Fox and catapulted Huey Lewis’ “The Power of Love” into a worldwide hit. Despite repeated pressure and two sequels, creators Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale always refused to make a reboot of the original film, but the thought of a musical as a new medium to tell the story has proved irresistible.

Michael J Fox was unable to travel to London to attend the opening night, but got to see the musical via video and shared a note with the cast.

BACK TO THE FUTURE The Musical will resume performances at the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End on 20 August 2021. 

BACK TO THE FUTURE The Musical will transfer to the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End following an out-of-town opening at Manchester Opera House in March 2020, where it was enthusiastically received by critics and the public alike. Previews will begin on 14 May.

BACK TO THE FUTURE The Musical opened at Manchester Opera House on Wednesday 11 March. The creators of both the film and stage musical were in attendance along with some VIP guests, with an after show party held at the Science and Technology Museum.

Back to the Future is a must see, whether you're a fan of the film or not. The cast and creatives have nailed this production on the head, finding the perfect balance within every aspect. First stop, Manchester. Next stop? World domination.
