Berkely Playhouse KidStage Set for HONK! JR June 2-3 - Dane Paul Andres Directs

Berkeley Playhouse has announced its next KidStage production, HONK! JR. Based on the Olivier award- winning production of Honk!, this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling is a bright musical comedy for all ages, full of humor, charm, and a message of tolerance. The show runs Saturday, June 2, 2pm and 7pm; Sunday, June 3, 12pm and 5pm at the Julia Morgan Theatre, 2640 College Avenue, Berkeley.

SRO Productions to Close Doors

Forced by budget cuts to shut down, SRO productions in Southfield is closing its doors by opening its final show: A Little Work by Anita Diamant & Stephen McCauley. Diamant plans to attend the May 19th performance.

Theatre IV announces the return of Seussical the musical, to the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, running tonight, April 27 through Sunday, May 20, 2012. Based on the work of Dr. Seuss with music and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, this production offers a new generation of kids the timeless story of friendship and community. Director, Chase Kniffen, calls Seussical, "the perfect family musical that will both touch and entertain all ages, from four to four hundred." Seussical is one of several Theatre IV offerings in the Minds Wide Open: Virginia Celebrates Children and the Arts initiative.

Directed by Christopher Leith, the set and puppets are designed by Lyndie Wright and music is by Sarah Goldfarb. THE UGLY DUCKLING plays from 19 May to 8 July 2012 and the press showing is at 2 pm on 26 May.

How could they enrich their children's lives with the wonders of live theater without becoming grumpy, sleepy, or dopey? The answer: the toe-tapping, fluffy Lucky Duck at the New Victory Theater, which goes far beyond most children's shows to be, as the title character puts it, "an average simple mega superstar."

In conjunction with its Family Festivities Series, Westport Country Playhouse is hosting a book collection for Read to Grow, Inc. Beginning with the 2012 season's first Family Festivities show, "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales," a new twist on classic fairy tales, on Sunday, January 29, 1 and 4 p.m., the Playhouse will collect gently used and new children's books which will be given to families and programs in the greater Fairfield County area through the Read to Grow organization. Bins will be located in the Playhouse lobby for book donations.
