The Met celebrates the new year with a new production of Bizet's Carmen by acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell, opening on Sunday, December 31, at 6:30PM. In her highly anticipated Met debut, Cracknell reinvigorates the classic story of deadly passion with a staging that moves the action to modern day and explores themes that could not be more relevant today: gendered violence, abusive labor structures, and the desire to break through societal boundaries.

Aaron Tveit (Broadway's Catch Me If You Can, Next to Normal), who returns to BSC after previously playing 'Matt' in the 2007 production of Calvin Berger, will star as 'Bobby' in Company, along with Ellen Harvey (Broadway's Present Laughter) as 'Joanne,'Lawrence Street (Broadway's Urinetown) as 'Harry,' Jeanette Bayardelle (Broadway's The Color Purple) as 'Sarah,' Kate Loprest(Broadway's First Date) as 'Susan,' Paul A. Schaefer(Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera) as 'Peter,' Jane Pfitsch (Broadway'sCabaret) as 'Jenny,' James Ludwig (Broadway's Spamalot) as 'David,' Lauren Marcus (Little Shop of Horrors, Sharon Playhouse) as 'Amy,' Joseph Spieldenner (Broadway's Les Miserables) as 'Paul,' Peter Reardon (BSC's All My Sons) as 'Larry,' Nora Schell(Spamilton, Triad Theater) as 'Marta,' and Rebecca Kuznick (BSC's Fiddler on the Roof) as 'Kathy.' Featuring a book by George Furth, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, with choreography by Jeffrey Page, music supervision by Darren Cohen, music direction by Alex Shields, and direction by JuliAnne Boyd, Company will begin previews on August 10 and is set to open August 13 for a run through September 2.

North Carolina Theatre presents Monty Python's Spamalot, the first show of their 2016/17 Season. Leading the quest as 'King Arthur' is Jeff McCarthy (Broadway: Side Show, Chicago, Urinetown, Beauty and the Beast). James Ludwig (Broadway: Spamalot, Little Shop of Horrors) will star as 'Sir Robin', and the show will also feature Ta'Rea Campbell as 'The Lady of the Lake' (Broadway: Book of Mormon, Little Shop of Horrors Tour: Sister Act). The Old Globe's presentation of Kiss Me, Kate, the classic musical comedy featuring a book by Sam and Bella Spewackand an iconic score by Cole Porter, is a spectacular revival in collaboration with Hartford Stage, choreographed by Peggy Hickey and directed by Hartford Stage Artistic Director and former Old Globe Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak, who won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, which made its world premiere at The Old Globe and Hartford Stage in 2013. The Old Globe engagement runs now through August 2, with opening night tonight, July 9, on the Donald and Darlene ShileyStage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Based on the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, Elf has a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Elf will be directed by Eric Ankrim and choreographed by Josh Rhodes. Elf will run eight times a week at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, from November 26, 2014, through January 4, 2015. Virginia's Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre closes out its 2013/2014 season with the world premiere musical Cloak and Dagger, directed by Signature Theatre's Artistic DirectorEric Schaeffer (Broadway's Follies, Million Dollar Quartet). From Helen Hayes Award Winner Ed Dixon (Signature's Sunset Boulevard) comes this screwball musical comedy send-up of the 1950s film noir.
