At first glance, Next to Normal is the quintessential domestic scenario. We see a suburban family with a seemingly normal life in “Just Another Day.” Diana is the perfect wife, has the perfect husband (albeit he can be a bit boring,) and an angsty teenage daughter who feels invisible. It’s the “perfect, loving, family” dynamic.

While much of the dramatic weight of Angels in America undeniably stems from the specter of AIDS, it would do the play a huge disservice to reduce it to a story about disease alone. At its heart, Sister Act: The Musical is a celebration of sisterhood and the unexpected bonds formed in the most unlikely places. And I realized that this is a subject that I feel like we've stopped talking about, even though it's still a really big deal. The big national organization, Exodus, had been dissolved. And that's a really interesting story, actually, about how that ended. And they had so much more presence in the media when there was this big national group over it. They fragmented into all these different pieces.

“Growing up, I was a singer as well as an actor, but dance is what I fell in love with,” says New York-based choreographer and licensed acupuncturist Adam Barruch. “I’m very much interested in the intersection of healing and dance and seeing how they intertwine.”
Barruch began his career as a young actor, performing professionally on Broadway and in film and television, working with prominent figures such as Tony Bennett, Jerry Herman and Susan Stroman. He later received dance training at LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and Performing Arts. After three years, he graduated early and was accepted into the dance department at The Juilliard School.

From the moment her iconic voice could be heard singing a gentle ballad version of 'Que Sera Sera' from off-stage the audience could feel that familiar warmth of authenticity fill the entire theatre. A friend, an ally, a spiritual powerhouse of talent was about to enter. When the gorgeous 4'11' frame dressed in a navy blue sequin knee-length dress, and silver three-inch bejeweled platform heels walked into the spotlight she was greeted by thunderous applause. With every word she sang of the 1956 Doris Day hit it felt like a large invisible hand reached out and captured all 1,127 people in attendance; we gladly remained there for the duration of the evening.

As a South Korean theatregoer living in South Korea, I have always been interested in artists of Asian nationalities pursuing their artistic careers on Broadway. Whenever I heard more and more stories of artists of foreign nationalities who had already coursed amazing paths with their professional careers, I felt more connected to Broadway and American culture in general, even though I have been living in Korea for most of my life.
