After celebrating a decade of beauty and innovation, Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Julianna Rubio Slager today announceD the 2022-2023 season of Ballet 5:8, ambitiously launching the female and minority-led premiere ballet company into the next chapter.

From May 9-15, Samantha Shay’s short film Mother Melancholia will be available for on-demand viewing via pay what you can, and all funds raised will go towards aiding the Ukrainian people. The film is a multi-layered portrait of four women set to a soundtrack for the end of the world. As part of the Under Construction Festival and in partnership with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, this special digital programming event will be available at bit.ly/MotherMelancholia. 

The ability to totally transform yourself into the physical, emotional and intellectual persona of another person so believably that audience members will see the character and not the actor is one of the most fascinating elements of live theatre to me. This is especially true for actors I follow, seeing them in several productions and always being surprised at the new person presented in front of me, often having nothing in common with the real personality of the actor. I had the opportunity to toss out a few queries to Lane on her vibrator play, her back story with Open Fist and her history with L.A. Theatre.

Ringing in a hopeful 2022, Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, will kick off a full year of live performance and art. CRUEL INTENTIONS: THE ‘90S MUSICAL returns to Los Angeles for a one-nighter, LIVE at and streaming from the Bourbon Room December 19, 2021. With the plot of the 1999 cult hit Cruel Intentions as their starting point, the cast of powerhouse singers will sing the characters played in the film by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillipe and others using songs that the characters would have sung in the movie, if it were a musical. These songsters include Brian Logan Dales, Israel Erron Ford, Frankie Grande, Jenn Harris, Emma Hunton, Janel Parrish, Constantine Rousouli and Carrie St. Louis.  

Tonight, NBC will air its sixth live musical production. Following in the footsteps of The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, Hairspray, and Jesus Christ Superstar, the peacock network will be presenting Annie. Based on Harold Gray's comic strip titled Little Orphan Annie, this musical tells the story of a little orphan with equal measures of pluck and positivity who charms everyone's hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in New York City in the year 1933.

KAREN MASON – the acclaimed Broadway star and concert artist – has announced the release of her new album Let the Music Play, which will be released Friday, November 12 in all digital formats and on CD from Zevely Records

As early as my sophomore year in college, I began to itemize a list of possible topics for my thesis. I was not looking forward to the whole thesis writing bit. However, things lightened up a bit as soon as I started to think of titles which I felt would excite me the most and therefore make my work easier. I came up with color-blind casting.

That triple-threat talent named David Engel will once again grace the Musical Theatre West stage in FOREVER PLAID 30th ANNIVERSARY REUNION CONCERT beginning August 5th, but this time socially distancing at Blair Field near by. Since David originated the PLAID role of Smudge, he has performed on many a stage from Broadway to his home away from home Musical Theatre West. David managed to answer my queries while in the car on the way to his husband Larry Raben’s opening night of SCHOOL OF ROCK he directed at Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Ivins, Utah.

Born in the throes of lockdowns and conceived around 2018, the new album Good Times (Roll On) is a range of throwback sounds to current vibes.

With more time to craft the new album the band reflected on their ever evolving sound. Over the last 2 years Fortunate Youth had toured with a sax player and trumpeter, so they added parts for a horn section and enlisted premier players John, Art, Bryan, and Geoff.

The Flynn has announced the grand reopening of its historic Main Stage theater, which will feature special programs from local, national, and global artists, updated facilities, and a Broadway season. The Grand Reopening Celebration will be held, at full capacity, on Saturday, October 23.
