At 91 years-old and with credits that range from “West Side Story” and “Gypsy” to “Sweeney Todd” and “Into The Woods” just to name a few, Stephen Sondheim remains one of Broadway's most pivotal voices.

The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon shared a behind the scenes look at their viral salute to Broadway that premiered on the show on June 8 with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phylicia Rashad, Kristin Chenoweth, Laura Benanti, Christopher Jackson, and 'In the Heights' stars Olga Merediz and Jimmy Smits!

In celebration of Pride month, Backstage Babble is releasing a series of episodes with LGBT artists that fulfill it's mission-painting a picture of what it has been like to be gay in the theater world from the 1950s up until the present day. It is hosted by 13-year old Charles Kirsch.

Viral internet sensation Kemar Jewel, a Black Queer director/choreographer from Jamaica and raised in Philadelphia, has released a visual love letter that uses the language of contemporary dance to help Black Queer men heal from trauma and connect as a community.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) kicks off a month of free summer concerts on July 4 with the BSO’s 4th of July special, a 30-minute musical televised performance in partnership with WMAR TV-2 followed by a series of free in-person concerts starting July 8 and running through July 30.

Melancholy Man, a dance short film, directed and choreographed by James Kinney with cinematography and editing by Pierre Marais is available for viewing on Vimeo, Social Media Platforms and selected film festivals beginning Wednesday, June 16th. The film is produced by Nicole LaFountaine.

On June 30th, The REV Theatre Company reopens its historic flagship venue, the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, with the song and dance spectacular, 42nd Street. The show marks the company's return to live performances and runs through July 28 at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Emerson Park. Broadway Live Cinema Festival, the new film and live performance event honoring Broadway and movie musicals, has announced the lineup of artists set to perform live at the inaugural festival this summer at AMC Empire 25 Theater in Times Square (234 W 42nd St, NYC). 

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts announced today that Jason Robert Brown, Savion Glover, Priscilla López, Susan Stroman, Marisha Wallace, and Christopher Wheeldon have joined the growing list of Broadway stars participating in I'm Still Here: A Virtual Benefit for the Billy Rose Theatre Division, airing June 23, 2021 on Broadway On Demand at 8pm EST and 8pm PST. The fundraiser will help raise critical funds for the Library for the Performing Arts' beloved Theatre Division as it celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.

The season will consist of nine episodes.

Broadway's back in New York City this fall, but fans of musical theatre at the Jersey Shore only have to wait another month. Algonquin Arts Theatre will be producing Broadway musicals 'Godspell' and 'Rent' this summer. Showtimes are Friday & Saturday nights at 8 pm, Saturday at 2 pm and Sundays at 3 pm.

Seeing both of these movies and comparing their teams has shown that Hollywood needs to let Broadway people work on movie musicals. There is an understanding that Broadway people have of musicals that Hollywood people don't.

For only four performances the past two weekends, the Châtelet in Paris was alive again with the sound of musicals we’ve been missing so much here. Boasting 2300 performances, and no less than four revivals on Broadway, Man of La Mancha ranks among the most performed musicals around the world. The book is by Dale Wasserman, based on his own teleplay on the fictional life of Don Quixote and that of his creator Cervantes, a very melodic score by Mitch Leigh, his first musical effort and his only big success, and lyrics by Joe Darion, which gave us at least two standards, the title song and “The Impossible Dream”, the latter recorded not only by Jacques Brel but by Johnny Halliday and Julien Clerc.

After what will be a 23-month intermission, The Muny's 103rd season will open with the Muny premiere of Smokey Joe's Cafe, followed by The Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, On Your Feet! and Chicago.

Tony nominee and Broadway star, Melissa Errico, will bring her “Sondheim by the Shore” concert to Holmdel Theatre Company on July 17. This show is part of the theatre’s “Broadway Outside the Barn” concert series.
