Halloween is the season when London’s theatres let the bats out of the belfry, and any venue with a draughty corridor suddenly has a ghost story to sell. Battersea Arts Centre has gone one better. It has cast itself as the haunted house, and in Immersive Octopus’s latest stab at a scare, the building is less backdrop than leading man.

The B Street Theatre never disappoints, and its current production of Eboni Booth’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Primary Trust, is another winner. Director Jack Reuler brings warmth, humor, and humanity to Booth’s thoughtful exploration of human connection, the challenges of stepping outside our comfort zones, and the ways our past experiences shape who we become. The play reminds us that even when change seems daunting, unexpected opportunities can open new doors to beautiful destinations.

Opera Atelier specializes in 17th- and 18th-century works, and Co-Artistic Directors Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg are highly adept at bringing them to life with fidelity to the conventions of the time. Impressively, they manage to do this in a way that never feels tone deaf to modern sensibilities and values. Productions incorporate ballet and use delicate, airy period instruments. The finished product is usually a whirl of vibrant colour, dulcet vocals, and peerless old-school stagecraft. This new production of The Descent of Orpheus delivers on all of these aspects.

Please enjoy our conversation and I implore everyone to check out Maybe Happy Ending at the Fisher theatre. This cast has some amazingly talented performers. Maybe Happy Ending is unlike any other musical and trust me when I say you will see a show that you will telling all your friends and family to go see.
