If you've been sitting alone in your house this last year, it's time to head over to Des Moines Playhouse to hear the music play. On September 10, they opened up their first production since 2019, where they opened their full house for tickets. While you may think this would be a place to put a light and fun show to welcome back audiences, they've taken a risk and put up a colorful yet dark production of Kander and Ebb's 'Cabaret.' The risk pays off as it gives the audience a powerful show that reminds me of everything I love about theatre. A production that not only lets the audience feel but leaves them thinking as well.

For those of us who began making regular pilgrimages to Palsson's Supper Club back in the early 80s to see Gerard Alessandrini's smart new revue pack with parody lyrics and impersonations that skewered the gods and goddesses of Times Square, Broadway just isn't Broadway without FORBIDDEN BROADWAY around.

Something is fishy in the Magic Kingdom, The Fairy GodMother (Cherry Pitz) has just received a cease and desist notice from all mighty powers that be (AKA Disney) saying that they own the rights to magic and that unless she pays royalties she is no longer legally allowed to grant wishes or magically influence situations. The Highway Women released their music video 'God Made Me Right' on January 29th, 2020 which was exclusively premiered on Nashville.com.  The inspiring music video features The Highway Women, Heather Harper, Kristen Kae, Amanda Pruitt & Drew Haley along with women & children who volunteered to be a part of this project. The group wanted to bring the lyrics to life so that the song and video would reach more women and girls. 'I'm proud of what I see, the reflection staring back at me' is the lead into the chorus. The entire lyric of the song written by Producer Justine Blazer (Nashville) is a nod to the ladies and girls who need to believe that they are beautiful.  We live in a world that dictates beauty by airbrushes, nip, tucks, fillers and size of clothing. Not realistic for most of us who wake up and get ready to start each  day.

Most performers have a career/performance arc. Oftentimes fans compare early Sinatra crooning to the Chairman of the Board's later rugged vocal swagger. As the years ascend it's not unusual for vocalists to descend a key on the melodic scale. Marilyn Maye connoisseurs marvel at her early recordings but are also completely captivated by the current version of the super singer.
