What makes a Broadway theatre? Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Below, we're giving you the scoop on the life of every one of them!

The AA Arts Incubator Program of Asian Improv Arts Midwest (AIRMW) is pleased to announce that its historic series, 'Our Perspective: Asian American Play Readings,' continues with its second reading in 2019. The next reading is the comedic full length play Lucy and Charlie's Honeymoon by Matthew C. Yee, Monday, May 13, at the Steppenwolf 1700 Theatre, 1700 N Halsted St, at 6:30 p.m. The running time is 90 minutes with no intermission. The Riverside Opera Company(ROC) and Richmond County Orchestra(RCO), under the direction of Maestro Alan Aurelia presents the 2nd Annual Staten Island Has Talent @NYPL. The performers are winners of open public auditions held by the RCO and ROC . They will sing and perform selections of their choosing. Red Bull Theater today announced the cast for the first of its two upcoming Off-Broadway productions at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the American premiere of Life After, a rapturously beautiful and stirring new musical with book, music, and lyrics by Britta Johnson. The Globe's own Barry Edelstein directs, with choreography by Ann Yee. Life After will run March 22 - April 28, 2019 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run March 22-28.

Director of Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Sam Hodges today announces the full cast for his production of Howard Brenton's The Shadow Factory which returns to celebrate NST City's first anniversary after opening the space with a sell-out run last year. The cast includes Denise Black (Lady Cooper/Ma Dimmock), Bethan Cullinane (Jackie Dimmock), Joe Tracini (Len Gooch) and Michael Fenton Stevens (Lord Beaverbrook) joining returning cast members David Birrell (Fred Dimmock/Hugh Downing), Catherine Cusack (Lil Dimmock/Sylvia Meinster) and Shala Nyx (Polly Stride). The production opens on 1 February, with previews from 30 January, and runs until 2 March.

Skylight Music Theatre announced the cast and creative team for Five Guys Named Moe, a joyful, jazzy tribute to Louis Jordan, the 1940s rhythm and blues singer, songwriter and bandleader.

On December 4, The New York City Children's Holiday Party brought nearly 800 children from 38 different homeless shelters to experience the epic musical King Kong. After the performance, each child received gifts and a backpack with educational supplies and departed the show with a merry send-off from Santa Claus.

Surflight Theatre will be opening their ever popular Holiday production for 2018, ELF the Musical, based on a motion picture of the same name, with a score by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin on December 5th. The book is adapted by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan from the 2003 film. This will be the second musical by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin that Surflight has produced this season having had The Wedding Singer in their 2018 summer lineup.

The Michael Cassel Group announced three senior appointments to support its growing production slate, including major Australian theatrical productions, international touring and concert presentations. Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Music by Jason Howland and Larry Kirwan, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and based on the songs of Stephen Foster. Paradise Square is produced by special arrangement with Garth H.
