As a follow-up to the announcement of the film program for its 40th Anniversary Filmfest, Aspen Film has released the line-up of special events and in-town guests as part of the festival taking place September 23-29, 2019. Advance film and event tickets will be available for purchase to Aspen Film members beginning today, Wednesday, September 4, and to the public on Monday, September 9. In the summer of 1983, Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein put on a show that was light years ahead of the zeitgeist, vis-a-vis the awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ people in America, and about twenty years before the legalization of same-sex marriage. Yet, after a successful tryout at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, they boldly went where no Broadway musical had gone before when they opened LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at the Palace Theatre on August 21, 1983. Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston concludes its 51st Summer Season with LA CAGE, and I am pleased to report that the show continues to stand the test of time. The three most important components for a successful staging of this musical are the two actors who play the leading men, Georges (J.T. Turner) and Albin (James Darrah), and the dance troupe who comprise Les Cagelles, the drag performers at the Saint-Tropez title nightclub owned by the latter couple, and they collectively win the trifecta.

On Tuesday, September 10, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo will present Klezmer Meets Classical, a concert featuring Jewish Chamber music, at 7pm in the Maxine and Robert Seller Theatre at the JCC Benderson Family Building, 2640 North Forest Rd, Amherst.

Netflix showcased a slate of upcoming live action series and films at Netflix Originals Festival held in Tokyo, Japan on 25 June. Since launch in September 2015, Netflix has been growing its library of locally produced stories. INTAR today announced the cast for the World Premiere of Julio Down by the Schoolyard, a new play by J. SoLow Fest, a Philadelphia tradition since its conception in 2010, has made its way across the continent and is making its groundbreaking debut in Portland, Oregon. Named for its focus on solo performance and "so-low-to-the-ground" values, SoLow Fest is dedicated to presenting artists who perform in non-traditional, low-tech venues to keep overhead costs low and encourage work to be made in locations where art might otherwise never be seen. SoLow Fest is free for artists to enter and is open to any Portland performing artists.

As the 2019 Summer Shakespeare Festival kicks off, The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team with As You Like It, the Bard's fabulously charming romantic comedy, whose heroine is one of his most remarkable creations. Director Jessica Stone's recent body of work-including Barefoot in the Park, Ken Ludwig's Robin Hood!, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and Arms and the Man-has had Globe audiences rolling in the aisles. Her Shakespearean directing debut will run June 16 - July 21, 2019 outdoors under the stars in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Tickets start at $30.00 and are on sale to the general public now. Previews run June 16-21 with opening night on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 8:00 p.m.

Music for wind instruments and music by women are the through-lines that combine in “Winds of Change,” the theme for Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival 2019, the 36th season of what Newsday has dubbed “the crown jewel of chamber music festivals on Long Island – arguably anywhere on the East Coast.” The festival's 12 concerts, running from July 21 through August 18, play this theme out with in BCMF trademark fashion, with a wide range of enticing music performed by some of the best musicians in the country.

This June, the Chestnut Street Singers, Philadelphia's cooperative chamber choir, presents a program that explores the power of beauty and devotion in the German countryside. THE SILENT FOREST will be performed at 8PM on Saturday, June 1 at Our Mother of Consolation Catholic Church (9 East Chestnut Hill Avenue, Philadelphia) and at 3PM on Sunday, June 2 at Old Saint Joseph's Church (321 Willings Alley, Philadelphia).
