Review: HAMILTON at Bass Concert Hall

Review: HAMILTON at Bass Concert Hall

by Joni Lorraine • Mar 31, 2025

It’s back, and we were in the Room Where It Happened. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s HAMILTON is running here in Austin through April 6th. Inspired by Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, the musical premiered Off-Broadway in 2015 at The Public Theater before transferring to Broadway later that year, where it became a cultural phenomenon. Can you believe it? TEN years ago?

Review: HAMILTON at Providence Performing Arts Center

by Jay Pateakos • Dec 13, 2024

While I may have been one of the few in the audience who had never seen Hamilton before-you can tell by the amount of people who sing along to just about every song-it was still the rarest of musicals, a combination of history and the best jazz, hip-hop and R&B music ever combined.

Review: MARY POPPINS at Palm Canyon Theatre

by Charlie Thomas • Dec 6, 2024

What holiday season can be claimed as complete without a Disney musical, right?  While one can tick that box with the opening of “Moana 2” at the local movie house, there is nothing like a live performance to energize those merry-making juices.  Palm Canyon Theatre provides that much needed “spoon full of sugar” into their magically musical punch bowl of fun, “Mary Poppins”.

Review: SHUNNED at Palm Canyon Theatre

Review: SHUNNED at Palm Canyon Theatre

by Charlie Thomas • Oct 7, 2024

Upon sitting down to see Palm Canyon’s newest production, 'Shunned' written by Larry Parr, I was admittedly ignorant of what I was about to behold. 'Shunned' offers a compelling exploration of the Amish way of life, juxtaposing tradition against the inevitable pull of modernity. The nuanced performances of the cast bring depth to characters who are wrestling with the desire to honor their heritage while confronting personal dreams and societal change.
