The American Theater Group (ATG), Somerset County’s professional regional theater company celebrating its 11th season, will present Parade, the Tony Award-winning musical by acclaimed playwright Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy), which features a rousing and haunting score by Jason Robert Brown (Bridges of Madison County).

Celebrate the laughter and joy of the holidays with a special box office opening of Pictures From Home beginning Monday, December 19 at Studio 54 on Broadway, coinciding with the beginning of Hanukkah.     

Tickets are now on sale for the Broadway premiere of Pictures From Home. Three of the theatre’s most inventive, inspired and award-winning artists will return to the stage, bringing to vivid theatrical life a comic and dramatic portrait of a mother, a father and the son who photographed their lives.

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center has announced the 2021 summer season, which will be held in a hybrid format — both online and in-person. Support for artists, a welcoming environment for imaginative discovery and celebration, and the safety of our community are at the forefront of this #ONeillSummer.

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

National Alliance for Musical Theatre is now accepting submissions for the 2021 Festival of New Musicals, which will take place on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22, 2021. All writers can submit a free application for Festival consideration if submitted by December 21, 2020.

Southern California's 3-D Theatricals has announced its special 3D+U guest for this week. On Friday, July 31, 3-D's Executive Producer/Artistic Director T.J. National Alliance for Musical Theatre (Betsy King Militello, Executive Director) has announced that beginning with the 2020 Festival of New Musicals, all writers can submit an application to be considered for the Festival free-of-charge. In keeping with previous years, submissions to the Festival will require an endorsement from an industry professional, but for the first time there will be no cost associated with on-time submissions regardless of who is endorsing the piece. NAMT's the current strategic plan aims to expand the musical theatre network by broadening and lengthening the development pipeline, a goal that will be accomplished in part through increased access and inclusivity. By removing submission fees and streamlining the Festival application process, NAMT aims to remove a potential barrier to entry for writers interested in applying to the Festival. Applications for the 32nd Annual Festival of New Musicals will open on October 24th, and information about the application process can be found on the NAMT website at namt.org/festapp.

The final show in the 2019 season is the Broadway At Music Circus premiere of In The Heights, a multiple Tony Award-winning Best Musical from Lin-Manual Miranda, creator of the smash hit Hamilton, running Tuesday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 25 at the Wells Fargo Pavilion in Sacramento.

The 2019 Broadway At Music Circus season continues with a new production of the multiple Tony Award-winning musical theatre classic Guys and Dolls, running Tuesday, July 23 through Sunday, July 28 at the Wells Fargo Pavilion in Sacramento.

When it opened on Broadway in 2006, The Drowsy Chaperone boasted an all-star cast and garnered five Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. You can expect that same quality in Broadway at Music Circus' third production of the summer, with Lynne Wintersteller returning to Sacramento in the title role. Lynne was last seen here in 2017 as Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! and as Mother Superior in Sister Act, where she solidified her place as Music Circus royalty and left audiences anticipating her return. We are now lucky enough to witness that event and Lynne was generous enough to speak with Broadway World Sacramento about her newest role and what we can expect from her in the future.

Producer Kevin McCollum announced today that the new musical, Mrs. Doubtfire, will premiere at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre this fall on route to Broadway.  The musical features a book Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell and music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, the Tony Award nominated team behind Something Rotten!  Four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks (Hello, Dolly!) will direct and Lorin Latarro (Waitress) will choreograph.  Ethan Popp (Tina) will serve as Music Supervisor.
