On Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 7:00pm, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra presents Stars Aligned, an exploration of classical works by composers who revolutionized America's collective imagination and cultural heritage through film scoring, at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. Stars Aligned features works by composers with deep cinematic roots - Nino Rota, Miklos Rozsa, and Franz Waxman.

A king of the swing era of big band music, Kay Kyser, will be recognized with a N.C. Highway Historical Marker, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. in his hometown. Kyser was born in Rocky Mount and went on to become perhaps the best-known bandleader in America. The marker dedication will be at First United Methodist Church Annex, 273 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, N.C. It will be. followed by a musical performance at the Imperial Centre at 270 Gay St. in Rocky Mount.

Described as 'a party you don't want to miss' by Broadway star Maurice Hines,' On Kentucky Avenue' transports audiences through time to the heyday of Club Harlem and offers them a fictional musical inspired by a real place: Kentucky Avenue, the center of African-American life in Atlantic City. Opened in 1935, Club Harlem quickly became the number-one destination for black performers in Atlantic City.

Arlene Shuler, New York City Center President and CEO, today announced programming for Balanchine: The City Center Years, the centerpiece of the 75th Anniversary Season. Beginning on October 31 (through Nov 4), an international roster of eight prestigious companies-American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, The Mariinsky Ballet, Miami City Ballet, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet-perform thirteen works over six programs.

Rehearsals are in full swing for The 5th Avenue Theatre's production of Kiss Me, Kate, which begins performances next Friday, April 6.

The new music ensemble, International Street Cannibals (ISC), presents "The Easily Satisfied Lover" - an evening of vocal works from the period of early modernism, which turns its lens on archaic male narratives of romance and reframes them through the voice and sensibility of a 21st century woman. Central to the evening is the performance of Arnold Schoenberg's monodrama, Pierrot Lunaire, op. 21 (1912) - a fantastical setting of 21 poems by Belgian symbolist poet Albert Giraud and freely translated in German by Otto Erich Hartleben. The program is a creation of soprano Ariadne Greif, Los Angeles-based director Gray Palmer, and ISC's founder/director Dan Barrett. It features conducting by maestro Christopher Lyndon-Gee; film footage by Swiss-Japanese filmmaker Caroline Mariko Stucky, especially created for this performance; and technical direction and stage management by Tyler Learned.

The Drama League (Executive Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks) will honor three powerhouses of the American theater community at the 84th Annual Drama League Awards, set for Friday afternoon, May 18, 2018 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.

Artistic Director Ray Jivoff unveiled Skylight Music Theatre's 2018-19 Season line-up of "firsts" -- five shows that have never been produced at Skylight.  "We are thrilled to announce this exciting season of well-known and well-loved shows that have not been produced by Skylight before," said Jivoff. "These are blockbuster titles that perfectly capture Skylight's mission of presenting the full spectrum of music theatre, from musicals to revues to classical repertoire.  Presented by the Foundation of Estonian Arts and Letters, Esto-Atlantis Choral Concert will celebrate the Republic of Estonia's centennial. 100+ singers from around the world will gather to perform and honor the rich heritage of Estonian choral music on Lincoln Center's world-renowned stage. The program manifests four generations of one musical Estonian family: Rudolf Tobias (1973-1918), his daughter, Helen Tobias-Duesberg (1919-2010), granddaughter Maaja Duesberg Roos (b.1945), and great-granddaughter Leila Roos (b.1986). The former two will be present in the spirit of their compositions, the latter two conducting their music, with Maaja additionally performing at the piano and Leila singing in the choir. This Easter Sunday performance includes sacred choral selections by Tobias, and the American premiere of Reekviem by Tobias-Duesberg, as well as the ethereal Morning Star by her contemporary Arvo Part, who is the most performed living composer in the world. Accelerating his arrival as Music Director by two seasons, Yannick Nezet-Seguin will take up the post in time for the start of the Metropolitan Opera's 2018-19 season, it was announced today.

'Porgy and Bess' has been called the first great American opera, made all the more significant by being set in a black American community and performed by black artists in 1935, a time when black culture was exoticized by the country's white majority.

The Cecilia Chorus of New York, Mark Shapiro, Music Director, will present the U.S. Premiere of Thierry Escaich's Messe Romane plus works by Fauré, Gounod and Messiaen on Sunday, March 4 @ 3:30 PM at Church of the Holy Trinity, 316 E. 88th St. The concert, directed by Shapiro, will be performed by (double) chorus and organist Bàlint Karosi.

San Francisco Opera presents Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) in three complete cycles, each presented over the course of one week as the composer originally intended, from June 12 through July 1 at the War Memorial Opera House. Encompassing four operas-Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung-and more than 17 hours, the story and music of Wagner's Ring are the acme of the operatic artform and one of the most ambitious works of music, theater and stagecraft ever created. In anticipation of the performances, San Francisco Opera today announced a schedule for its Ring Festival events designed to provide the public, from first-timers to experienced Ring-goers, with enriching activities including lectures, symposia, film screenings, musical programs, public discussions and a Ring Community Day for families.

Kronos Quartet/Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) is proud to announce the fourth group of composers for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. Launched in 2015, Kronos' Fifty for the Future is an exciting partnership with Carnegie Hall and others to create 50 new works - by 25 women and 25 men - expressly for the training of students and emerging professionals. Each year, ten composers are announced. As part of Orpheus' ongoing American Notes commissioning initiative, two new pieces Benjamin Wallfisch's Concerto for Mandolin and Accordion and a work by James Matheson receive their world premieres next season.

Numerous events are scheduled for January 4-8, 2018, including The Auction at Graceland, the opening of the new Hollywood Backlot exhibit in the Elvis Presley's Memphis entertainment and exhibit complex, the annual Birthday Proclamation on the front lawn of the Graceland mansion and a performance by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Many of the birthday celebration events will be held at The Guest House at Graceland, the new AAA Four Diamond-rated resort hotel located just steps from Graceland.
