George R. Kravis II, whose collection of industrial design is among the most important in the United States, has made a gift of valuable historical and contemporary design objects to the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, in New York.

On May 19 at Symphony Space, Cygnus Ensemble will celebrate the music of American luminary Milton Babbitt, an iconic, sometimes controversial Princeton-based composer, teacher, and musical statesman whose career and direct influence spanned 76 years, from 1935 to his death in 2011.

Lincoln Center and Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss announced today the 50th Mostly Mozart Festival, one of the world's major music festivals and a beloved summer New York tradition, with events taking place across Lincoln Center July 22-August 27, 2016.

On Today, March 3, at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, Music Director Osmo Vanska leads the Minnesota Orchestra in an all-Sibelius program, performing the symphonies nos. 1 and 3 as well as the Violin Concerto in D Minor featuring soloist Hilary Hahn. A pre-concert talk at 7:00 p.m. features Glenda Dawn Goss of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

The Metropolitan Opera's 2016-17 season, the 50th anniversary of its home at Lincoln Center, will feature 225 opera performances of 26 operas in a varied repertory that ranges from 18th century masterpieces to one of the most acclaimed operas in recent years. Repertoire for the company's 132nd season will include the Met premiere of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's 2000 opera L'Amour de Loin, as well as new stagings of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, Rossini's Guillaume Tell, Gounod's Romeo et Juliette, Dvo?ak's Rusalka, and Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier. A gala concert on May 7, 2017 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's Lincoln Center location with performances by opera's leading stars honoring the Met's past and future. Ticket prices will not increase, remaining the same as in the current season, and audience development programs instituted by the company in recent years will continue.  

Chicago-based Big Foot Media (www.bigfootcreates.com) released a new music video today titled "Valse Triste," starring violinist Philippe Quint and The Joffrey Ballet's Christine Rocas. Set to a nearly forgotten Romantic gem, "Valse Triste" by Hungarian violinist and composer Ferenc von Vecsey, the video was directed by Tim Whalen, choreographed by Caitlin Meighan, written by Philippe Quint and co-produced by Big Foot Media andPhilippe Quint.

In its 103rd year, the Houston Symphony announced the upcoming season at Jones Hall on Monday, January 25, in front of several hundred guests and supporters, emphasizing the institution's ongoing collaboration with living composers, a continued focus on new music, a renewed concentration on innovative programming, and world-class musicianship and entertainment. Guest conductor Jun Markl returns to lead the Utah Symphony for Carmina Burana on October 23-24 at 7:30 PM in Abravanel Hall. This concert will feature the Utah Symphony Chorus, The Madeleine Choir School, and two University of Utah choral ensembles - the University of Utah Chamber Choir and the A Cappella Choir -- performing alongside the orchestra and soloists Erin Morley, Mark Womack and Ryan Belongie in an explosive and powerful experience.

BERLIN, VT-At its September 2015 board meeting in the offices of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Governing Board of Directors approved their new officers and elected new board members. The four three-year term members new to the board are Jim Girardin of Burlington, Cathy Stadecker of Burlington, Dirk Elston of St. Johnsbury and Betsy Bloomer of Rutland.  “The level of experience and commitment these newly elected board members bring to the Vermont Symphony Orchestra is truly gratifying,” noted Board chair Victoria Young.  “The breadth of talent will insure that the strategic and artistic directions created will continue taking the VSO in the right direction.”  Officers elected were Victoria Young, Chair; Barbara Wessel, Vice-chair; Ginny Roth, secretary and Perez Ehrich, treasurer.
