Pig Iron Theatre Company, the internationally acclaimed, Philadelphia-based organization, has announced A Period of Animate Existence, an ambitious new multimedia production that meditates on perhaps the most pressing issue facing this and future generations-climate change, which threatens to result in the loss of 20-50% of all living species on earth-and asks, "How do we contemplate the future in such a moment?"

San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced plans for the 2017-18 repertory season. The Company's 95th season will open Friday, September 8 with a gala performance of Giacomo Puccini'sTurandot led by Maestro Luisotti and an international cast starring Martina Serafin, Maria Agresta and Brian Jagde.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, led by Music Director Jeffrey Kahane, presents the US premiere of Kurt Weill's Song-Suite for Violin and Orchestra, arranged by Paul Bateman, and the West Coast Premiere of Bruce Adolphe's Violin Concerto 'I Will Not Remain Silent,' which is dedicated to Rabbi Joachim Prinz and his friendship with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Saturday, January 21, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, and Sunday, January 22, 2017, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.

In this first installment of the CSO's Russian Winter Festival, Music Director Rossen Milanov will conduct this exciting collaboration featuring the musicians of the CSO and principal dancers of BalletMet in unparalleled performances of Stravinsky's fascinating Petrouchka and selections from Prokofiev's romantic Romeo and Juliet. BBC New Generation Artist Elena Urioste will also perform Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, providing a perfect complement to this not-to-be-missed evening of Russian music. The all-Prokofiev program will also feature the composer's Symphonic Suite from the film, “Lieutenant Kijé” – both the cantata and suite will be recorded live for later release. Also on the program, Utah Symphony Concertmaster Madeline Adkins will make her Utah Symphony concerto debut in a performance of Prokofiev's Concerto No. 2 for Violin. The Orchestra will also perform Dvorak's Sixth Symphony and Dreamtime Ancestors, a 2015 composition by Christopher Theofanidis. The concert is Today, November 12 at 8:00pm, with an Open Rehearsal Friday, November 11 at 5:30pm.

The performance includes a dramatic musical retelling of the classic story of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet narrated by Ralph Williams with Brahms Tragic Overture and Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 84. The evening will feature solos from special guests Aaron Berofsky on violin, Sarah Cleveland on cello, Christian Green on bassoon, Timothy Michling on oboe, and narration by Ralph Williams.

The four-opera cycle of Das Rheingold,Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung-widely considered the greatest and most ambitious work ever conceived for the lyric stage-will be presented in three complete cycles from June 12 through July 1, 2018.

Zach Sheets, accomplished composer, chamber musician and orchestral flutist, will debut his latest work, in clarion fields, at the Vermont Symphony Orchestra's Made in Vermont Statewide Tour. The Made in Vermont series kicks off on September 23rd continuing through September 30th.

 Benjamin Cadwallader is one of only nine participants in the League of American Orchestras' Emerging Leaders Program. Viewed by the field as one of the best sources of identifying talented administrators with great leadership potential, the program is the flagship of the League's leadership development offerings. The program, along with its previous iteration, the Orchestra Management Fellowship Program, has advanced the development of more than 180 alumni, from 25 current executive directors of orchestras to countless senior executives.

San Francisco Opera announces the installation of a new, permanent photography exhibition Looking Through the Lens: The Glory of San Francisco Opera, Past and Present. Located in the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera, the exhibition features 135 photos drawn from the newly formalized Edward Paul Braby San Francisco Opera Archive collections. Many of the photographs in the exhibition have never before been published, displayed or seen by anyone outside of the Company staff and archive volunteers. The retrospective marks the beginning of the Company's public celebration of San Francisco Opera's Centennial in 2022.

Ms. Reis will become Senior Director of Philanthropy and Communications for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Reis began her career as a member of the new product development team in marketing for Snapple Beverage Group. She returned to her roots in Vermont and has spent years working with the non-profit and education sector in development, innovative and successful fundraising, and marketing strategies in the Northeast Kingdom. Her knowledge of, experience with, and passion for the arts in Vermont, as well as the philanthropic community, are substantial. 

On May 19 at Symphony Space, Cygnus Ensemble will celebrate the music of American luminary Milton Babbitt, an iconic, sometimes controversial Princeton-based composer, teacher, and musical statesman whose career and direct influence spanned 76 years, from 1935 to his death in 2011.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) showcases the interplay of music and film with 'LACO @ the Movies: An Evening of Disney Silly Symphonies,' a program of dazzling and delightful Academy Award-winning animation created by Walt Disney Studios between 1929 and 1939, with orchestral scores performed live by Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra led by six-time Emmy award-winning composer Mark Watters, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, 7 pm, at the historic Orpheum Theatre movie palace in downtown Los Angeles.
