Birdland will kick-off their exciting month of programming with the following acts:

July 31-August 4 (Tuesday-Saturday) at 7:00PM

Marilyn Maye with the Billy Stritch Trio at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

The Birdland Theater is proud to announce that legendary, Grammy-nominated songstress Marilyn Maye will be headlining in the brand new performance space for two weeks. Ms. Maye will be accompanied by the Billy Stritch Trio from July 31 to August 4, with shows at 7pm each night.

John Pizzarelli with Jessica Molaskey

Birdland favorite John Pizzarelli presents his guitar/vocal, piano, bass trio, reminiscent of the swinging sound and configuration favored by Nat "King" Cole in the 1950s and 60s. John Pizzarelli charms audiences with his warmth, sense of humor, and musical chops. Through his multi-faceted career as a jazz guitarist, vocalist and bandleader, the son of the legendary New Jersey native guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, has become one of the most recognizable faces and voices in contemporary jazz for his interpretations of classic standards, romantic ballads and the cool jazz flavor he brings to his performances and recordings.

Nicole Zuraitis

Vocalist, keyboard player and songwriter Nicole Zuraitis blends bountiful songwriting skills, an effervescent presence and dazzling vocals in a consummate package that has thrilled audiences across Manhattan and across the world.

August 4 (Saturday) at 5:30PM

Jay Leonhart

Combining the skills of an old school entertainer and virtuoso jazz man, bassist, vocalist and composer Jay Leonhart has been a fixture of the New York scene for over forty years. When Jay was fourteen he started playing the bass in The Pier Five Dixieland Jazz Band in Baltimore and never looked back. He will be joined by Kenny Ascher on piano and Vito Lesczak on drums.

August 5 (Sunday) at 6:00PM

Troy Roberts 'NU-JIVE Perspective'

Hailing from the remote location of Perth, West Australia, saxophonist and composer Troy Roberts has received numerous accolades including 3 DownBeat Jazz Soloist Awards, 2 Grammy Nominations, and was the only Australian semi-finalist in the 2008 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. He's a member of The Jeff 'Tain' Watts Quartet, Joey DeFrancesco's new quartet, 'The People', and is currently celebrating his 7th record as a leader, Tales & Tones (Inner Circle Music). Troy Roberts' NU-JIVE is the convening of five soulful beings who take the listener on a creative journey through the architecture of Troy's original compositions. The music is an eclectic concoction of Soul, Funk, R&B, Latin, Gospel, Indian classical music, and even glimpses of the 19th century romantic period - all musically glued together by each player's great sense of Jazz etiquette.

Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce, "More About The Melody," hosted by Broadway cellist Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf. Cellist Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf (Bridges of Madison County, My Fair Lady) will host an evening that explores beautiful melodies from Broadway and beyond. Joining her will be George Abud (The Band's Visit), Ariana DeBose (Summer, Hamilton), Claybourne Elder (Sunday In The Park With George), Adam Kantor (The Band's Visit, Fiddler on the Roof), and Julia Murney (Wicked, Lennon), plus a dazzling band, all of whom will shine a spotlight on the music that drives your favorite stories.

Susie Mosher at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

The Lineup with Susie Mosher is a wild, anything-goes variety show featuring entertainers from the Broadway, cabaret and comedy scenes. Actress/singer Mosher hosts the spontaneous extravaganza at 9:30pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month starting July 24. Susie's special guests will be Alice Ripley, Julie Halston, David Perlman, Celisse Henderson and vocal group Siren.

August 9 (Thursday) at 5:30PM

Emily Braden

Whether she's singing with a symphony or fronting a world-class trio, Braden has the innate ability to win the heart of any audience with her powerhouse vocals and striking stage presence. Winner of New York City's prestigious "Best of the Best" Jazzmobile Vocal Competition, Braden's Signature Sound is an effortless, nuanced blend of jazz and soul. Her knock-out debut album Soul Walk is composed of high-energy originals and "flipped-out" jazz standards.

Eric Comstock

Singer/pianist Eric Comstock has been called "a song's best friend," and the jazz and pop songbooks are in great hands when he is onstage at Birdland. Whether the song is by Rodgers and Hart or Ellington and Strayhorn, Paul Simon or Bob Dylan, you'll hear the lyric as if for the first time. Joining Eric will be eminent bassist/composer Sean Smith -- in all, a perfect winter Saturday supper!

Ladybugs

The Ladybugs' music features the dreamy, dulcet tones of voices and trombones. Lead by Martina DaSilva, their unique instrumentation of two lead singers (both doubling in percussion & ukulele), two trombone players, guitar, and bass allows for a lush sound that uplifts and attracts all audiences. The Ladybugs' repertoire includes favorites from the 1920s, '30s, and '40s, infused with country, blues, latin, and classical music. With an uplifting sound that attracts all audiences, The Ladybugs effortlessly keep listeners smiling and moving.

Christina Bianco

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer/impersonator Christina Bianco will be returning to the historic stage with "Divine Delusions." Celebrate the divine as internationally acclaimed vocalist & YouTube sensation Christina Bianco engages in a musical battle with the diva voices in her head. Barbra Streisand, Ariana Grande, Edith Piaf, Celine Dion and more of your favorite divas wrestle for stage time, singing all of their greatest hits (and a few of each other's, too)! Christina & her Everyman Band will take you on a musical comedy journey through a myriad of styles and genres. With rapid-fire, spot-on impressions, soaring vocals and unlikely interpretations of beloved classic songs, "Divine Delusions" is a not-to-be-missed theatrical experience the whole family can enjoy. Mike Stern 4 Generations of Miles

Miles Davis' career as a trumpeter, composer and bandleader is synonymous with the stylistic evolution of jazz. His ensembles and recordings are the benchmarks for cool, post-bop and fusion as evidenced by these four-generations of artists who first gained recognition under Davis' leadership. Drummer Jimmy Cobb appeared on one of the most popular and influential recordings in history, "Kind of Blue" (1959) while guitarist Mike Stern ("We Want Miles," 1981), bassist Buster Williams ("Directions," 1960s) and alto saxophonist Sonny Fortune ("Big Fun," 1974) have the post-bop and fusion bases well covered.

Beegie Adair and Monica Ramey at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Jazz fans and critics agree, pianist Beegie Adair's sophisticated and listenable brand of jazz has made her recordings among the biggest sellers in the jazz world. Her collaboration with Vocalist Monica Ramey is equally sublime.

John Yao

For over a decade, John Yao's dept talent as a trombonist, composer and arranger have helped cement his place on the New York City jazz scene. Yao's lyrical soloing and expressive round tone combined with his with a creative hunger for exploring the boundaries of harmony and rhythm in his compositions/arrangements has established him as a unique musical talent. Trombonist John Yao leads lineup that consists of Alto Saxophonist Billy Drewes, Tenor Saxophonist Tim Armacost, Bassist Peter Brendler and Drummer Mark Ferber.

Eric Comstock

The Renee Manning/Earl McIntyre Septet

Vocalist and composer Renee Manning has worked with the Mel Lewis Orchestra, the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, Chico O'Farrill, Lester Bowie, Mingus Big Bands and many others touring Europe, Scandinavia & Asia. Arranger Earl McIntyre has played, recorded or arranged for Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Taj Mahal, Lester Bowie, The Band, Stevie Wonder, McCoy Tyner, J.J. Johnson,Carla Bley, Aretha Franklin, Cedar Walton, Levon Helm, the Count Basie Orchestra, the Ellington Orchestra, the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Slide Hampton, the Mingus Big Band, Cecil Taylor, Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and Fred Ho.

Natalie Douglas Tributes: Ella

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Natalie Douglas will return to the historic music room with more "Tributes!" celebrating the music and magic of the one and only Ella Fitzgerald. Musical director for the evening will be Billy Stritch.

Nina Storey at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Birdland Theater is proud to announce the return of singer/songwriter Nina Storey, who will bring her unique "future retro" sound to the stage. Nina will be debuting her new music that seamlessly weaves together vintage soul and jazz with a catchy, epic pop sensibility, her dynamic voice will have you entranced from start to finish. Her music has been heard on shows such as "So You Think You Can Dance," "Girlfriend's Guide To Divorce," and "My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," as well as in numerous commercials and feature films.

Count Basie Orchestra

2015 marked the 80th Anniversary of The Count Basie Orchestra. William J. "Count" Basie (1904-1984) started his orchestra in Kansas City in 1935 and proceeded to develop one of the greatest jazz groups in history. Under Basie's leadership -- with a strong commitment to making sure every tune was danceable -- the orchestra featured many of the greatest instrumentalists and vocalists in jazz including Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Joe Jones, Joe Williams, Snooky Young, Frank Foster, Thad Jones, Frank Wess, Clark Terry, and many more. They played for Kings and Queens, appeared in movies and television shows, and won 18 Grammy Awards, the most for any orchestra. Today, under the leadership of director, Scotty Barnhart, The Count Basie Orchestra is traveling the world, swinging and shouting the blues with precision, in Count Basie's unmistakable style of Kansas City swing.

Daniel Reichard at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Birdland Theater is proud to announce that Broadway/Concert star Daniel Reichard will bring "Summer Playlist" to the new stage. The program will feature songs from various genres including Broadway, 1960's rock, 1970's folk, 1980's new wave, and contemporary radio. For fans of musicals or pop, for homebodies or party animals, for nostalgics or this show strives to uplift spirits with heartwarming stories, high-energy musical arrangements and a full band. Acclaimed arranger Jesse Vargas, Reichard's longtime collaborator, will musically direct.

Olivia Chindamo with The Rajiv Jayaweera Trio

Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan are just a few of the many iconic female jazz vocalists who made history each and every single time they took to the stage. Superstars in their own right, they delighted, dazzled and thrilled audiences with their extraordinary voices and enchanting spirits, their legacies inspiring generations of vocalists and instrumentalists alike. Join jazz vocalist Olivia Chindamo (Bell Award-winner for Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year 2016) and her all-star band as they pay homage to jazz's First Ladies of Song.

Borislav Strulev

World-renowned cellist Borislav Strulev has been fascinating audiences on some of the world's most prestigious stages since his U.S. debut at the Kennedy Center in 1993 arranged on initiative of Isaac Stern, Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn and Byron Janis.

Evan Ruggiero

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that dancer/singer/ Evan Ruggiero and his band The S'Evan Legs will be in concert at Birdland. Evan Ruggiero (Drama Desk Award Nominee, Bastard Jones) and his rocking band, The S'Evan Legs, will perform their ultimate show at Birdland. Charlie Parker Birthday Celebration

Born August 29th, 1920, Charlie "Bird" Parker was one of the most influential and iconic artists in jazz history. As the central figure in the development of bebop in the 1940s Bird was a legendary figure in his own lifetime and was idolized by those who worked with him including Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell and Miles Davis. He was the inspiration for Birdland and practically defined its mission as the home for modern jazz in New York City. Since his death in 1955 at age 34 Bird has inspired every subsequent generation of jazz artist and left a rich legacy of distinctive compositions and signature melodic vocabulary that still informs every style of jazz. For his celebration Birdland presents a group of jazz all-stars who can move seamlessly between classic and contemporary Bird-inspired material.

Katie Thiroux and Special Guest Ken Peplowski at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

With her recent recording, Off Beat, Katie Thiroux proves that all the critical attention for her debut album and subsequent live appearances was well earned. Thiroux has conjured up a dream project that certifies the well-being of exceptionally crafted mainstream jazz by mixing swinging standards with sly interpretations of overlooked gems from the catalogues of June Christy, Peggy Lee, Benny Carter, Frank Sinatra, and more.

Kat Gang

Originally from Boston, MA, Kat grew up in a musical household and began her jazz journey taking summer classes at The Berklee College of Music. She went on to study musical theatre at NYU and earned her BFA in undergraduate drama from Tisch. She then studied music and vocal performance at the Royal Academy in London and lived there for five years singing jazz all over England and the UK. She has performed twice at the GRAMMY Awards with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, has acted in various feature-length independent films, and sang a duet with Bobby McFerrin at the Blue Note Jazz Festival. She has performed at various clubs in NYC and toured internationally in Europe, Russia and Israel. She is excited to release her fourth studio album entitled "Come Closer" and can currently be seen every Wednesday night at The Plaza hotel with her quartet.

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.
