Much has been written and expressed about how few new Broadway musicals—six—hit the boards last season. The Broadway landscape is experiencing several challenges at the moment, largely tied to the American economy as a whole. In addition, the number of new musicals per season always fluctuates. In particular, the post-pandemic seasons stuffed with productions that were waiting in the docket were bound to cause a few course-correcting smaller slates in subsequent years.

Musical Theatre West's brand new presentation of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT marks the fifth time the 74-season-old institution is revisiting this ubiquitous musical, this time starring hunky Broadway alum and America's Got Talent standout Brian Justin Crum. For all intents and purposes, their result is certainly a genuinely entertaining one, propelled mostly by its musically-gifted lead performers, but also its entire ensemble, all of whom act, sing, and move as if they're all having a sassy, gay ol' time. But their smile-inducing antics do require some leeway.

Earlier this morning, the cast of Ragtime, currently running on Broadway at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, hit the stage on 34th Street to perform at the 99th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
