On The Town Revival

The Tony Award nominated revival of On The Town concludes its run on Broadway tonight, September 6, following 28 previews and 368 regular performances, making this the longest-running Broadway production of the show since the 1944 original. ON THE TOWN began previews on September 20, 2014 and officially opened on October 16, 2014 at the Lyric Theatre. To mark tonight's closing, BroadwayWorld takes you back through the musical's run on the Great White Way!

Original cast member Megan Fairchild will return to the acclaimed Broadway revival of On The Town for one final turn as Ivy Smith on Sunday night. Misty Copeland will perform the Sunday matinee.

On the heels of being named the first female African-American principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland joined the cast of Broadway's ON THE TOWN on Tuesday, Augst 25th in the role of 'Ivy'. Copeland will be performing through September 6. The Huffington Post just unveiled a behind-the-scenes profile of her journey from rehearsals to opening night on Broadway, featuring interviews with Misty and her co-star Tony Yazbeck. Gene Kelly has been big part of this past Broadway season. Not only did the legendary song and dance man play the original Jerry Mulligan in the 1951 film AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (a role now played onstage by Robert Fairchild), but he also brought Gabey to life on the big screen in 1949's ON THE TOWN (now played by Tony Yazbeck). Though the musical theatre icon passed away almost twenty years ago, his legacy continues to inspire performers everywhere. This Sunday, August 23, would have marked Kelly's 103rd birthday, and to celebrate ON THE TOWN's Cory Lingner and Eloise Kropp put together their own performance of 'Main Street.' Over the weekend, WWII Navy veterans Ray and Ellie Williams led the Times Square Alliance's "Kiss-In"  to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. At the special event, hundreds of people re-enacted the legendary lip-lock  between a U.S. sailor and nurse, captured forever on the cover of LIFE Magazine. The famous victory kiss occured on August 14, 1945 on Military Island, at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 43rd and 44th Streets. Now, New York City Ballet soloist Georgina Pazcoguin steps into the role of 'Ivy Smith' for performances from tonight, August 11, through August 23. Beginning August 25, Misty Copeland will make her Broadway debut in the role for 12 performances only, through September 6.

Fairchild will be succeeded by New York City Ballet soloist Georgina Pazcoguin, who will step into the role of 'Ivy Smith' for performances from August 11 - 23. Beginning August 25,Misty Copeland will make her Broadway debut as 'Ivy Smith' for 12 performances only, through September 6.

Just yesterday, Tony Yazbeck was honored at the legendary Sardi's Restaurant with his very own portrait.Yazbeck earned 2015 Tony Award, Drama League Award and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations as well as the 2015 Astaire Award, for his portrayal of 'Gabey' in the hit Broadway revival of ON THE TOWN. His other Broadway credits include Chicago (Billy Flynn), Irving Berlin's White Christmas (Phil Davis), Gypsywith Patti LuPone (Tulsa, Outer Critics Circle nom.), A Chorus Line (Al), Oklahoma!, Never Gonna Dance, and Gypsy with Tyne Daly.
