DC Jazz Festival Announces Nick Cannon to Host Finale Celebrating Great Masters of Jazz

DC Jazz Festival (DCJF), with the only city-wide jazz festival in the mid-Atlantic region, today announced that Nick Cannon will host Great Masters of Jazz, on June 16 in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Co-presented by the DC Jazz Festival and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, with support from Events DC, Great Masters of Jazz will celebrate the life and work of the legend Quincy Jones; the trailblazing trumpeter-bandleader Roy Hargrove; the highly influential song stylist Nancy Wilson; and DC's own peerless pianist-vocalist Shirley Horn and saxophonist-educator Fred Foss. Featured performers and presenters include the Roy Hargrove Big Band, Patti Austin, Kenny Garrett, Justin Kauflin, Adam Clayton Powell III, Angela Stribling, Paxton Baker, Sharón Clark, Princess Mhoon Dance Project, and very special guests.

Isaac Mizrahi returns to Cafe Carlyle for three special performances titled Isaac & on June 10, June 17, and June 24. Isaac's previous three residencies in the room were sellouts, receiving widespread critical acclaim. He'll be joined by his band of jazz musicians, led by Ben Waltzer, for an evening of eclectic tunes and charming storytelling. Each night a well-known friend will join him on stage for a few songs and banter. With a fresh stock of swag items to re-gift to audience members and a wealth of commentary on everything from prescription drugs to obsession with social media, audiences are sure to be delighted by this "founding father of Alt Cabaret," according to the New York Times.

May 13 marks the 25th year the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (HAAIA) will be presented to five risk-taking, mid-career artists - experimenters - who are challenging and transforming art, their respective disciplines, and society. Founded and conceived by legendary musician, philanthropist and artist Herb Alpert, and his Grammy-winning vocalist wife, Lani Hall in conjunction with the California Institute of the Arts, the HAAIA has been awarded to 125 artists in the five disciplines of dance, film/video, music, theatre and visual arts. Each artist receives a $75,000 unrestricted prize and a one-week residency at CalArts which administers the prize on behalf of the Herb Alpert Foundation.

The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today unveiled its feature film lineup.
