BWW Review: GWEN AND IDA: THE OBJECT IS OF NO IMPORTANCE at Nu Sass At Caos On F
by Mary Lincer - Jun 21, 2019

GWEN AND IDA is a work of fiction, a fantasy. Any resemblance to actual human beings is purely coincidental,' concludes the program for Gwen and Ida: The Object is of No Importance, currently at Caos on F Street. Of course, the lives of painter Gwen John and actordirector Ida Lupino could each make a full length documentary of serious importance with slides of John's elegant paintings and clips of Lupino's always forceful acting (They Drive by Night [1940], While the City Sleeps [1956]) and the 1964 episode she directed of 'The Twilight Zone' ('The Masks'), the only woman ever to do so. Instead, David S. Kessler has written his fantasy which cannot help but distort the significance of the women's lives and careers.

Lost Ed Wood Novels Found And Published For First Time In 50 Years!
by A.A. Cristi - Jun 10, 2019

Now on Amazon! Eight great Edward D. Wood, Jr. novels have been discovered in an attic in Oklahoma. They have been painstakingly reprinted from the tiny text, on aged, yellow paper, to a larger, clearer text on exception cream paper. Countless hours have been toiled formatting and silently correcting typos for a new, refreshing read. It's a major Ed Wood miracle, bringing these lost gospels to the curious modern age. They all bare the original covers, some wonderfully illustrated in the glorious 60s pulp style.  The stories include a crock-pot of weirdos and oddballs, transvestites and strippers, detectives chasing unknown killers, lovely young runaways caught up with seedy carnivals, and much, much more sleazy insanity!

BWW Review: Lushly Romantic THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA Ushers in New Era for Street Theatre Company
by Jeffrey Ellis - Apr 5, 2019

Craig Lucas' evocative libretto and Adam Guettel's lushly romantic (and Tony Award-winning) score, notwithstanding - and putting aside the momentous occasion of Street Theatre Company inaugurating a new theater venue - perhaps the most notable attribute of the Ernie Nolan-directed version of The Light in the Piazza debuting tonight is its stellar cast of artists who bring the show to life with such apparent ardor. Continuing through April 20, STC's The Light in the Piazza is beautifully sung and impressively acted by Nolan's impeccably cast ensemble in a production fairly redolent of mid-century Florence and it serves as the perfect introduction to STC's new home.
